Terms of Service
Last updated: August 3, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of SaveVIN (the "Service"), a web application that provides vehicle recall and safety reports assembled from public NHTSA data, together with an optional paid recall-monitoring subscription. By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. The Service
SaveVIN lets you look up a vehicle by VIN or year/make/model and view recall and safety information drawn from public data published by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). A free lookup shows a vehicle decode and recall summary. A one-time full report and an ongoing monitoring subscription are paid features.
2. Accounts
You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide, for keeping your login credentials confidential, and for all activity under your account. You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, to purchase a paid feature.
3. Paid features, billing & auto-renewal
- Full report: a one-time charge of $19 per report.
- Recall monitoring subscription: $4 / month or $29 / year, which re-checks your saved vehicle(s) for new recalls and, on a best-effort basis, alerts you when one is published.
Prices are shown in U.S. dollars and exclude any taxes that may apply. Payments are processed by our payment provider, Stripe, Inc.; SaveVIN does not receive or store your full card number.
Auto-renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or annual) at the then-current price, and your payment method is charged for the next period, until you cancel.
4. Cancellation & refunds
You may cancel your subscription at any time from your account or by contacting us at contact@savevin.com. Cancellation stops future renewals; access to monitoring continues until the end of the period you have already paid for. Payments already made are generally non-refundable except where required by law. If you are a consumer in the EU/EEA you have a statutory 14-day right of withdrawal for digital services; by starting a paid lookup or subscription you may request that we begin performance immediately, and you acknowledge that once the service has been fully performed the right of withdrawal is lost. To exercise a withdrawal or request a refund, contact us at the email above.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to: (a) scrape, resell, or redistribute the Service or its data in bulk; (b) look up vehicles you have no legitimate interest in, or otherwise use the Service to harass, stalk, or harm another person; (c) attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the Service; (d) use automated means to place load on the Service beyond normal personal use; or (e) use the Service in violation of any applicable law. We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these Terms.
6. Recall data is informational, not a safety guarantee
Recall, complaint and safety-rating information is retrieved from NHTSA public data and is provided for informational purposes only. It may be incomplete, delayed, or unavailable for some vehicles (for example, where a manufacturer or model cannot be decoded). A result of "no open recalls" means no matching open recall was found in NHTSA's data at the time of the check. It is not a guarantee that the vehicle is safe, defect-free, or free of recalls, and it does not replace a professional inspection or the manufacturer's own recall notices.
Always confirm open recalls directly with a franchised dealer, the vehicle manufacturer, and NHTSA (nhtsa.gov) before relying on them. Never ignore a manufacturer recall notice.
Recall monitoring and alerts are a best-effort convenience, not a substitute for official notices. Where you enable monitoring or alerts for a saved vehicle, SaveVIN re-checks public NHTSA data on a periodic basis and tries to notify you when a new matching recall is published. This is a convenience feature offered on a best-effort basis only. It is not a substitute for, and does not replace, the official recall notices sent by a vehicle's manufacturer or the information published by NHTSA.
You should register your vehicle with its manufacturer (so the manufacturer can reach you directly about recalls) and check NHTSA directly at nhtsa.gov/recalls. Do not rely on SaveVIN alerts as your only source of recall information.
SaveVIN does not guarantee the completeness, accuracy, or timeliness of any alert or notification, and does not warrant that an alert will be sent, delivered, or received. Alerts depend on third parties outside our control (NHTSA data availability, email and push delivery, and your own contact details being current). To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, SaveVIN and its operator are not liable for any missed, delayed, undelivered, or inaccurate alert or notification, or for any loss or harm arising from reliance on the monitoring feature.
7. Not affiliated with NHTSA
Recall and safety data is sourced from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA, nhtsa.gov). SaveVIN surfaces public recall data and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by NHTSA or any vehicle manufacturer.
8. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the data will be complete or current.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, SaveVIN and its operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or for personal injury or property damage, arising out of or relating to your use of, or inability to use, the Service or any reliance on the data. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law (including liability for intent or gross negligence, or for injury to life, body or health).
10. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above and, where required, by notifying you. Continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules and, where applicable, the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). Mandatory consumer-protection rights of the country in which you reside remain unaffected.
12. Provider & contact
The Service is operated by the provider identified in our Impressum. Questions about these Terms: contact@savevin.com.
