“There are 2 antifreeze lines going to the back of the vehicle, they are to cool the 3rd row seats using air conditioning. Both lines were incorrectly designed so they have a repetitive failure rate of 100%. Both lines failed in March of 2025 and were replaced by Serra Nissan of Traverse City, MI. Both lines failed again and were confirmed by the dealer yesterday on 7-1-26. The first failure occurred at 8,401 miles. The second failure at 16,742. “The component that failed/malfunctioned is the instrument cluster and it is available for inspection upon request. The instrument cluster which displays the RPMs, miles, gas gauge, vehicle temperature, speedometer and other pertinent information while operating the vehicle has started to go out. If the entire panel goes completely out there is no way to see any of this information which could also lead to odometer fraud as well as other notifications that are displayed on there going unnoticed. “Issues with alternator, oil leakage, and currently the transmission. After sitting idle for 10 to 15 minutes transmission will not shift out of first gear. It has become dangerous to drive the vehicle due to not being able to properly accelerate resulting in the possibility of being hit if driver pulls into traffic. “My 2024 Nissan had a malfunction light of my auto on/off come on and then a malfunction of the traction control. I turned the car on and off which cleared the lights. I then began driving again and those came on as well as check engine light and reduced power came on while on the highway. The code was the camshaft sensor. I replaced this and codes still appear. “Car has many problems with battery. The dealership stated the wires are coated with soy, which is a food source for rodents. I've had to get the wires replaced in the car but continue to have problems with the battery. I've had multiple times when the car is dead and needs a jump. The wiper fluid pump also recently stopped working. I'm not sure how the car has not been recalled yet, with coating food for animals how many more wires have been eaten. This car has been services by dealership 5 times in the last 4 months”

“The defect involves the outside side mirrors and the reverse-tilt function. When the vehicle is shifted into Reverse, a mirror normally tilts downward as designed. However, after shifting back into Drive or Park, the mirror intermittently fails to return to its previously stored driving position. Sometimes it returns correctly, sometimes it returns only partway, and sometimes it does not return at all. When the failure occurs, the mirror remains pointed downward and significantly reduces rearward and adjacent-lane visibility until I manually readjust it. This creates a safety risk because the…”

“This morning at approximately 0615 I walked out to my vehicle to go to work. There was no damage to my car. When I entered my vehicle and closed my driver door, my tailgate glass crumbled leaving a massive horizontal hole in my rear windshield as well as the outer sides. There is now glass all over my trunk and driveway. Once again, the car had been sitting in my driveway for three days, there were no large pieces of debris around that could have hit it, and when I was in my car there were no loud sounds indicating something struck my tailgate. It just spontaneously shattered.”

Vehicle Speed Control 6

“While driving at highway speeds, when attempting to accelerate when passing another vehicle or changing lanes, the vehicle has lost acceleration on more than 1 occasion. I could not accelerate even with the gas pedal all the way down. The car just rolled slowly for about 10 seconds before it began accelerating and jerked forward. Nissan not providing a solution because they “cannot duplicate the issue””
NHTSA complaint #11674856, 2025

“Since we purchased the vehicle we noticed that power outlet would not work. We have taken this vehicle back to the dealership and even though they "fix it" as soon as we drive it out within in one or two hours it will give out again. The last time we took it they said not to use "off the market" cellphone chargers because that is what is making it not work. Then the AC has also stopped working a couple of times. All of sudden the truck will blow out hot instead of cold air. We have to stop the vehicle, turn it off and let it rest and then the AC will be back up. They have supposedly looked int…”
NHTSA complaint #11673779, 2025

“Transmission malfunction/failure caused loss of all power and had to coast over 3 lanes to the only available shoulder on the left side of the express lanes. This in and of itself could have been catastrophic due to the speed of the vehicles on the express lanes. Turns out there's a failure point on the flexplate and nissan techs are aware of the issue. Nissan as a whole should replace them if this is the result.”

Wheels 4

“I am reporting premature and abnormal tire wear on two consecutive Nissan Pathfinder vehicles (2022 and 2024 models). In both cases, tires required replacement at low mileage (approximately 20,000–25,000 miles) despite normal driving and proper maintenance. My 2022 Pathfinder also experienced brake-related issues, which raises additional concern about potential underlying defects. The repeated pattern across multiple vehicles suggests a possible defect involving alignment, suspension, or braking systems. Premature tire wear presents a safety concern, as it can reduce traction, increase stoppin…”

“I was driving the vehicle and it just stopped on the highway, no warning no kickback no precursor that something was wrong with the vehicle, and it stopped, the warning sign: Not available System malfunction came on and then the entire electrical system shut down. I had to have the car towed home because it would not start. I went to the dealer on several attempts and no help was rendered. I was told to either come back or there are too many cars, just really getting the run around for a matter that is fatal. I was driving with my family in the car and it just stopped. I almost had an acciden…”

“4 separate times now when driving the vehicle the vehicle has sputtered and died. The first time we were on a road driving at around 40mph and were able to coast into a parking lot. After a few minutes the vehicle restarted a we took it to the dealer the next day. The first 2 occurrences were in January of 2024. The 3rd occurrence was on April 23,2024. At around 9:30 PM, I was on my way home from the store and driving at 55mph when the vehicle suddenly died and was coasting. I was able to coast into an empty school parking lot. “The vehicle has an ongoing safety-related defect involving the forward distance sensor. The distance sensor randomly turns off while driving, which disables critical collision-avoidance systems including Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning, and Intelligent Cruise Control. The failure is intermittent and unpredictable. The safety systems may appear functional and then shut off without warning, which creates a safety hazard because the driver cannot reliably depend on the vehicle’s crash-prevention features. The vehicle has been taken in for repair multiple times. The…”

“The Original Equipment (OE) Bridgestone Alenza Sport A/S 255/50R20 105H M+S tires on my brand new 2024 Nissan Pathfinder suffer from groove wander on roads in which grooves are cut into them to mitigate hydroplaning in rainy conditions. The geometric design, tread design incompatibility, or structural irregularities of these tires cause severe groove wander and impair safe handling. I believe there is a mismatch between the tire design and the vehicle's weight or suspension design - Nissan should not be placing this OE tire on new Pathfinders. “Upon purchasing the vehicle, the headlights are not bright enough. There are several threads on reddit talking about this issue. Some people say they are fine, but others are reporting that they have almost hit curbs and other items due to the lack of density. The coverage is far and wide, but the visible light in all conditions is horrible. I had a previous 2021 Nissan Murano with LED headlights and they blew this out of the water. Same for a 2021 Nissan Rogue. The rating on the headlights is not "Good" but "Acceptable." These are unsafe! In snowy weather I could not see the road. I have had…”

How we read this (methodology)

How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2024 Nissan Pathfinder draws about 24.3 complaints per year on the road, ranking 5 of 13 among the Nissan Pathfinder model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).
