Electrical System 13
“The contact owns a 2024 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle with the Push-To-Start feature, the vehicle failed to start. No warning light was illuminated. Additionally, while idling in traffic, the vehicle lost automotive power and failed to accelerate as intended while the accelerator pedal was depressed. The vehicle was restarted as a temporary fix. Upon further inspection, the contact became aware of an abnormal electrical burning odor entering the cabin of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed; however, no ca…”

“I OWN A 2024 HONDA RIDGELINE TRAILSPORT. THE AUTOMATIC IDLE IS CONTINUOUSLY DRAINING THE BATTERY, MAKING IT HARD FOR THE TRUCK TO START. I HAVE PURCHASED 2 BATTERIES SINCE MAY 2024, WHEN I PURCHASED THE TRUCK. IT APPEARS THAT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE AUTOMATIC IDLE ON THE TRUCK, BUT HONDA TELLS ME THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. WHEN ACTIVATED, THE AUTOMATIC IDLE WILL SHUT DOWN THE VEHICLE IN TRAFFIC, CAUSING A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION BECAUSE THE BATTERY DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH POWER TO START THE VEHICLE WHENIT STALLS.”
NHTSA complaint #11750927, 2026
“Windows and moon roof on 2024 Honda Ridgeline opens when parked. Lock button on Key fob is supposed to be pressed twice to activate this feature but opens when fob is on desk or in my pocket. No damage yet but could cause problems for theft or rain damage if parked outside when unattended”
NHTSA complaint #11744386, 2026
Exterior Lighting 13
“LIGHTED RUNNING BOARD LIGHTS CONTINUOUSLY QUIT WORKING. HONDA HAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED BUT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM.”
NHTSA complaint #11719445, 2026
“The Auto High Beams (AHB) fail to work correctly. When set to on, they will come on for maybe 3-4 seconds then turn off, and maybe repeat the next time. The bigger issue is they fail to turn off many times when approaching oncoming traffic. The feature is dangerous by not turning on when they should and not turning off when they should. This is a widespread problem reported by many. The Honda dealer said they adjusted the sensitivity of the AHB when in fact there is no such adjustment. There is clearly something wrong with the implementation on the Ridgeline as other same year Honda models…”
NHTSA complaint #11714527, 2026
“Using the Automatic High Beam system, the high beam may come on even if a car is coming toward me. Sometimes, the high beam will not transition to low beam until the incoming car is real close to me. The incoming car would put his high beam on to warn me. As well, the high bean can randomly transition to low beam for no reason. And a second after, come back to high beam. Really dangerous. I had other cars with this system and never had that kind of problems.”
NHTSA complaint #11687477, 2025
Forward Collision Avoidance 7
“My Honda CMBS system has false warnings from cars coming from the other lane and road markers setting off the system. I had numerous incidents where the steering wheel shakes and a brake warning illuminates with no possibility of an accident. After this warning the car would automatically brake to stop you. I have taken this vehicle to the dealer twice they said it is perfect. Honda knows this system is defective. In the owners manual they describe all the false warnings. I have experienced every one in the manual. I have begged the dealer and Honda company that I believe the camera mounted in…”
NHTSA complaint #11717628, 2026
“The vehicle’s engine and powertrain management system repeatedly fails with multiple DTC's triggering a full-system cascade of safety-critical warnings and automatic power-limiting. The issue affects the engine, transmission, emissions, AWD, brake system, stability assist, steering assist, ABS/VSA, hill-start assist. The vehicle is fully available for inspection upon request. During each failure, the vehicle abruptly enters reduced-power “limp mode” without warning—resulting in loss of engine power, disabled AWD, and disables all safety/stability systems. These events have occurred in normal…”
NHTSA complaint #11704975, 2025
“While idling at a traffic light,2 systems shut down: Adaptive Cruise Control & Road Departure Mitigation System. Also the BRAKE SYSTEM light came on, but the brakes continued to work.”

Unknown Or Other 5
“My husband was driving the vehicle to school with the sunroof shade closed. Without any impact or anything hitting the sunroof, it shattered. I tried filing a warranty claim with Honda, and they denied the claim without requesting any evidence.”
NHTSA complaint #11731132, 2026
“The auto high beam is widely known to be so bad it behaves the opposite of how it should. It frequently blinds other drivers when it should not turn high beams on, often blinding them in the last few seconds before passing, causing a dangerous situation, not to mention the possibility of drivers thinking it was done on purpose maliciously. This has led to near road rage experiences. The high beams also rarely turn on when they should but at least there is a manual override.”
NHTSA complaint #11722080, 2026
“I was driving alone on US-HWY 45 in Chunchula, AL......I heard the loudest noise ever sounded like a high power rifle blast in my ear then I was showered with glass. The sunroof exploded. I had a police report written, I literally thought I had been shot at. There was only myself and one other very small vehicle way ahead of me. No trees hanging over the road or anything.”
NHTSA complaint #11689621, 2025
Back Over Prevention 4
“The contact owns a 2024 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle with the auto high beam feature activated, the auto high beam feature malfunctioned, causing the high beam lights to turn off and on independently. The contact stated that the high beam lights were illuminated for more the 8 seconds before deactivating. The contact stated that the failure had created a visibility hazard for the driver. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the failure was due to a faulty multifunction camera. The multifunction camera was replaced but the failure…”
NHTSA complaint #11650077, 2024
“I attempted to have this recall address with no remediation. I went to the Dealer 2 months ago and called Honda's recall line and was told that Honda is not equipped to repair the vehicle due to a parts shortage.”
NHTSA complaint #11625215, 2024
“The contact owns a 2024 Honda Ridgeline. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V321000 (Back Over Prevention); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was contacted. The dealer stated that the back-over prevention camera had to fail before the recall remedy could be provided. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.”

Service Brakes 4
“2024 Honda Ridgeline. Brakes stick or slow to release. Feels like brakes are dragging. Delayed acceleration. This is unsafe. Dealer has had vehicle 7+ days total across 2 repair attempts from March 25th 2026 thru April 1st 2026 and again April 29th 2026 and dealership still has the vehicle. Has not been able to fix the issue. Honda issued Dealer Message on August 7, 2025 stating "American Honda Motor Co.,Inc. is searching for certain 2023-2025 Odysseys, Passports, and Ridgelines with a customer complaint of the brakes sticking. Vehicle purchased April 1st 2024 and has 12,700 miles. Currently…”

“The contact owns a 2024 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while driving 50 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. In addition, the brakes were independently activated. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate above 30 MPH. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the contact was not informed of the diagnostic results. The contact was informed that unknown repairs were being performed. In addition, the contact stated that the failure had…”

“The issues with this vehicle and the ongoing problems related to the Forward Collision Warning and Automatic Emergency Braking have previously been reported to you under complaint number 11619917. With additional events, the vehicle has again been taken back to the dealer and the issues reported to American Honda. The mechanical conditions still exist. The dealer has driven the vehicle and now says that the known conditions are normal? They also blame the conditions on the roads being driven (County and State Highways)? How can a vehicle manufacturer be allowed to sell vehicles with known…”

Fuel/Propulsion System 3
“The automatic engine stop/start system is a safety hazard. On multiple occasions with two different drivers (husband and wife owners), the engine has stopped just as the accelerator is pressed after waiting for traffic to clear at a stop sign or while waiting to enter a street from a driveway or parking lot. The delay when expecting the vehicle to accelerate has nearly caused accident(s) several times. Drivers are forced to switch off the automatic stop/start system every time the vehicle is driven since it defaults to active and it is not safe to use. The system should be permanently disa…”
NHTSA complaint #11651435, 2025
“Gasoline fumes originating from engine compartment and entering the cabin of vehicle via HVAC. Fumes are thick enough to cause eyes to water, mild respiratory distress (coughing) and clothing to smell of gasoline after exiting the vehicle. Concerns exist about possible fuel leak given how dense the fumes are. Multiple users on social media report similar issues of gasoline fumes from the motor coming into the cabin via HVAC system across the Honda lineup, but mainly users with the 3.5 liter v6 motor. Some point to leaking fuel lines. Of those I found looking for a solution, all said Hond…”

“In the first month of owning my Honda Ridgeline (bought new with 5 miles on the odometer), I received TWO check engine light warnings for the same thing: "Emission system problem. Power may be reduced. See your dealer." Dealer says the problem is a part that does not shut and seal the fuel filler part, after refueling with regular gas. I brought it in after the 1st warning, and the check engine light was "fixed" however, soon after, it came on again. So I brought it in a second time, today. It was not fixed today. I was told a part is being delivered and after the part comes in, I will get a p…”

“Ocean Honda of Hanover had leased me this vehicle with a safety recall not repaired.I drove the car up to Washington Mountain in NH with my family without knowing the vehicle had a safety recall. Approximately 8 days after the day of I leased the vehicle the seller contacted me asking to take the vehicle back to the dealership to repair a safety recall , I immediately went to the dealership and left the vehicle there they told me to come back on next day and I did but they returned the car back to me without repair and said if I have any problems to contact them I asked them if it have been f…”
NHTSA complaint #11609864, 2024
“The vehicle went into neutral while I was driving at 40 mph. It then started showing errors on the gauge cluster. It said something about do not drive vehicle, transmission issue, see dealer. I took it to the dealer and all they did was clear the codes and give it back to me. I'm not comfortable with this since I was stopped in the middle of traffic on a 5 lane road at rush hour. It was very unsafe and I'm afraid it may happen again.”

NHTSA complaint #11722080, 2026
“The highbeams while not failing do not operate in a safe manner. While driving you are unable to really disable them. While driving about 12 miles down hill the Auto High beams repeatedly turned on likely blinding oncoming traffic and traffic passing me while I scrampled to turn them off so that I would not blind other drivers. These auto high beams seem poorly designed and poorly thought out there should be easier ways to disable them other than having to park and hold a lever down for like 40 seconds. Legitimately thought I was going to accidentally be responsible for someones death mine or…”

“Rear window shattered while driving on a Highway. It seems this happens often with Honda vehicles. Dealer said to have it inspected by the window repair service. Still getting estimates.”

Lane Departure 1
“While idling at a traffic light,2 systems shut down: Adaptive Cruise Control & Road Departure Mitigation System. Also the BRAKE SYSTEM light came on, but the brakes continued to work.”

Seats 1
“Manual driver’s seat height adjustment slowly reverts to a lower height position without touching the manual mechanism. This is a daily occurrence. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the dealer or any other independent source. This problem began occurring shortly after purchasing the vehicle, or was unnoticed until then. An internet source that claimed to be a mechanic for my brand identified the problem requiring a new seat base, as the mechanism is built into that seat base.”
NHTSA complaint #11652952, 2024
Steering 1
“While traveling at the posted speed, the automatic emergency braking system applied the brakes without any vehicle in front of us. The speed limit on this particular road is 50 miles per hour. The braking was so sudden and applied with force that the vehicles traveling behind us had to apply their brakes to avoid a collision with us. This has happened before, but never with such force. The date I have given below is the most recent event. The issues have been reported to the dealer without resolution.”

Tires 1
“I am filing this complaint regarding the OEM General Grabber A/T tires (date code 1424) that came with my brand new 2024 Honda Ridgeline, purchased in June 2024. At approximately 16,000 miles, I noticed significant dry rotting and cracking between the treads on all four tires. This was observed right before a planned long-distance trip, raising serious safety concerns. I maintain proper tire pressure and take excellent care of my vehicle, and I live in Vermont where the climate is harsh but not extreme enough to justify this kind of premature deterioration. The dealer referred me to Honda’s 1…”

“The contact owns a 2024 Honda Ridgeline. The contact stated that while driving at 55 MPH, there was an extremely loud banging noise detected, and the sunroof exploded upward and outward without warning or impact. The driver and his wife sustained a piercing, ringing sound in the ears, but medical attention was not provided. The local dealer was contacted, where it was diagnosed, but they were unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The approximate failure mileage was 12,246.”

How we read this (methodology)
How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2024 Honda Ridgeline draws about 16.0 complaints per year on the road, ranking 8 of 13 among the Honda Ridgeline model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).
