“I purchased my vehicle from South Point Hyundai in Austin, Texas on [XXX], 2022. Almost immediately after purchase, I began having trouble with the vehicle’s braking system. In essence, the vehicle seems to inappropriately activate its ABS while braking over uneven surfaces (think-parking lots, speed bumps) in dry conditions. I have dashcam videos of at least three examples of this happening (from Aug ‘22 through May ‘24). I took the vehicle to the dealer for repairs that included the braking issue on or about [XXX], 2022, but the dealer claimed they were unable to diagnose and address the br…”

“The front sunroof on our 2023 Hyundai Palisade shattered without any impact and caused a huge explosive sound. When we went outside the car to see if there was any rock or debris, there was no sign of any rocks or debris which caused the front sunroof of our car to shatter. The glass from the shattered sunroof could have possibly hurt us seated in the front seat or could have injured our one year old and six year old kids seated in the middle row.”

“I received a recall notice on 3/19/2026 which stated my 2023 Palisade failed to meet safety standards due to "ejection mitigation." I called Hyundai directly for information after the dealership I purchased the car from had no information for me. Hyundai's customer service representative told me the third row was not safe for occupants and that I should not use it because in a roll over it could cause injury or death. Seat Belts 68

“Following a recall repair on the rear seatbelt assembly of a 2023 Hyundai Palisade, a severe safety design defect was discovered. The replacement buckle installed by the dealer lacks proper flexibility and clearance. Consequently, when the second-row seats are folded down, the seat frame directly crushes and structurally damages the rigid plastic buckle, as the component cannot clear its designated protective slot. This issue presents an extreme safety risk. The second-row seatbelt buckle is now cracked, crushed, and structurally compromised, rendering the restraint system unsafe and unusable…”

Hyundai has admitted in writing that this vehicle violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 226 because the third-row side curtain airbags fail to meet ejection mitigation requirements. I routinely transport minor children in the third row. Visibility/Wiper 53

“The wipers stopped working midway and they wouldn’t come back on until 15 minutes afterwards. It was pouring down rain and the visibility was terrible and couldn’t see anything in front of me. Our safety was at risk because of the wipers and windshield. We just got our vehicle on 5/12 - and on 5/20 it first happened then took it in - got a loner car - picked up the vehicle 5/21 and on 5/23 the wipers stopped working again and our safety was at risk and visibility was awful. On our vehicle has been at the dealership since 5/25 and haven’t heard from them yet.”
NHTSA complaint #11741289, 2026

“There is an ejection mitigation recall and no remedy from Hyundai in the near future. This sets us up for future injury to my children in the event we are in an accident. This also will result in a lawsuit by us to Hyundai should I or my children are injured or maimed in the event thus vehicle does not properly protect us in an accident. The seat belts are recalled as well and parts are on back order. The solution from Hyundai is to continue to use the defective belts with minor children and hope for the best. This is simply unacceptable.”

“While driving my 2023 Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy at about 30 mph on a small paved street, the sunroof suddenly exploded with a very loud bang. There were no other cars nearby, no debris, and nothing hit the vehicle. Thankfully, the inside sliding cover was closed, so no glass entered the cabin, but the sound was extremely alarming and could have easily caused an accident if conditions were different. “The self leveling shocks have gone bad two times now in a matter of 4 months. The first time we had no major issues but the second time it caused the ABS system to kick in while making a left turn. “While in reverse the car is not alerting us to cars or people approaching or objects directly in kur path.I actually hit small fire hydrant that I could not see while backing up. “unknown, been trying since 2024-2025 to get the back seat belt recall done only to be told its on back order not sure when it will be available. In the meantime I have my kids in the back seat , The dealership response was to get an "rental car" until the parts come in.”

Exterior Lighting 2

“The headlights are fogging up on the inside of headlight with condensation. This problem will lead to two issues. The ability to see at night and I believe the plastic lens will become damaged over time. My friend who has the same type of vehicle including year has the same issue. His vehicle was in a accident. The part for the headlight was $1500. I looked inside the headlight and their are packages of Dri-eaz to absorb the condensation. Since these packages will only absorb for a limited time the issue appears will only get worse and the Manufacture must have know of this issue.”

Tires 1

“Tire size: 245/50R20 102V. All four original equipment tires (Hankook Ventus S1 Noble2 H452) developed sidewall failures at approximately 29,000-30,000 miles of normal driving. All four tires showed identical diagonal stress cracking across the upper sidewall, consistent with sidewall flex fatigue. One tire showed visible outward bulging/deformation of the sidewall, indicating internal structural separation. Two tires had areas of outer sidewall rubber torn away with internal cord material exposed. No warning light appeared prior to discovering the damage upon visual inspection. This presente…”

How we read this (methodology)

How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2023 Hyundai Palisade draws about 96.2 complaints per year on the road, ranking 2 of 5 among the Hyundai Palisade model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).

Before you buy this Hyundai Palisade

Don't buy on the strength of a problems page alone. Check the exact VIN of the car you're looking at. The open recalls are free, and the full $19 safety report pulls every complaint, safety rating and a downloadable PDF for that one vehicle.
