“My 2023 Tahoe HC 6.2L VIN Passed the Catastrophic Engine Safety Recall stating my Engine was SAFE. The dealership performed a change in oil velocity per GM's directives. Then the engine seized upon accelerating. No warnings, just dead, yet able to coast through a large intersection on a -20F day where NOTHING worked on the vehicle. Even though the engine would not turn over when hitting the Start button, it would only allow 15 minutes worth of Emergency Flashers before the sensors shut the vehicle completely down. We had to abandon the vehicle on the side of the road, with key fob in thi…”

Power Train 40

“While traveling out of town on the highway,we had a sudden loss of power. My vehicle wouldn’t accelerate or shift. My check engine light came on and a message displayed that said something about reduced power. After limping to a dealership while in another city, I managed to wait hours for my husband to pick me and my children up. We waited several days for the dealership to tell us it was the valve body that needed replaced. My vehicle was NOT in the original recall for the valve body, although we experienced the exact same issues that the recalled vehicles experienced. This entire experienc…”

“Rear wheels suddenly lock up momentarily during downshift at 30-50 mph (most reproducible 35-40). Transmission in a high gear (8th-10th); any throttle input commanding a downshift can trigger it: as the downshift executes, rear wheels briefly stop, skid with an audible chirp, vehicle jerks violently. Reproducible on demand, multiple times per drive, on video. Highest-speed event ~50 mph, family aboard. NO advance warning: no check engine light, no message, no stored code, no gradual onset. Traction control sometimes activates at the instant of the skid, sometimes not — always reacting to trac…”

“My 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe LS has experienced repeated service issues within the first year of ownership. The vehicle has been in the repair shop five separate times and out of service for approximately five months total. Due to extended repair periods, the mileage remains extremely low. A primary concern involved the steering system. The steering wheel was noticeably off-center while driving straight, requiring continuous correction to maintain proper lane position. Steering-related components were inspected and replaced. There were no warning lights present at the time. However, improper stee…”

After multiple calls, they told me that the account is linked to the previous owner and can’t be transferred because of a faulty telematics communications module. “I am submitting this complaint to report a potential vehicle safety defect involving the factory-installed running boards on a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe. The running boards become extremely slippery during light snow or minimal winter precipitation, creating a significant risk of slipping while entering or exiting the vehicle. This occurs during normal use and does not require heavy snow or ice. I have experienced multiple near-falls despite stepping carefully, and the condition is repeatable. Given that the Chevrolet Tahoe is commonly used as a family vehicle and may be accessed by children, eld…”

NHTSA complaint #11734328, 2026

“To NHTSA, I am reporting a serious safety defect in my 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe purchased from Criswell Chevrolet (Gaithersburg, MD). Defects include a documented brake system failure while driving and repeated electrical/shift faults preventing shifting out of Park. The issue is ongoing even after the dealer/manufacturer stated it was fixed. Key events: Feb 3, ~12:45 pm: While traveling ~35–39 mph on a five‑lane road, brakes failed. Fuel/Propulsion System 8

“I was a victim to the L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion recall. On June 19, 2025, my engine was replaced as it failed all test. After getting a new engine, I have had 5 engine misfires and the dealership blamed it on faulty gas. Now my 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe that I trust to drive my two toddlers around, is at the dealership for a flashing engine light. Even after the engine was initially “remedied”, the new engine continues to fail and I have lost trust in having a safe and reliable vehicle.”

“The engine randomly shut off while driving down the interstate and wouldn’t start back up. The car had the recall “remedy” done to it. Inspection and thicker oil. The only warning I got was to restart the engine after it shut off. My safety was compromised by breaking down on a main interstate coming through Memphis with no emergency lane to pull over in.”

Visibility/Wiper 7

“Following a GM-initiated over-the-air (OTA) software update on May 18, 2026, my vehicle's windshield wipers became permanently inoperable — stuck in the "on" position with no ability to turn them off. This is not a gradual mechanical failure or wear-and-tear issue. The malfunction began immediately and directly as a result of a software update pushed by General Motors. Because the wipers cannot be controlled, I have been forced to remove the wiper fuse to make the vehicle driveable. This means I am currently operating a vehicle without functional windshield wipers — a federally mandated safet…”
NHTSA complaint #11744525, 2026

“For the third time, my windshield wipers quit working in the middle of a rain/snow storm. Have taken the vehicle into GM service under warranty twice, the first time they updated the software but that repair only lasted a few months. Second time they replaced the windshield sensor, that lasted a few months. Now today, driving home in the snow my wipers quit working altogether. The sprayer worked, the rear wiper on the same handle works, but nothing else I could do gets the wipers to work. This is a big safety concern as it has happened all while driving in I climate weather.”
NHTSA complaint #11710992, 2026

“While driving in a rainstorm on a highway at 70mph, the windshield wipers quit working and would not restart. This has happened on multiple occasions and the dealer could not recreate the issue. Visibility was virtually zero, creating a very unsafe situation. The condition corrected itself after multiple ignition cycles and several minutes being pulled over on the side of the highway.”

This incident put both myself and my child at serious risk of injury or worse, had it occurred at a higher speed or in heavier traffic. Once stopped, the vehicle would not restart. How we read this (methodology)

How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe draws about 50.5 complaints per year on the road, ranking 3 of 15 among the Chevrolet Tahoe model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).
