“Our 2023 Equinox needs the high pressure fuel pump replaced after we broke down on the side of the road. Thankfully, we were able to get to a safe location while we waited for a tow truck since our vehicle would no longer accelerate. There is currently a recall (N242450160) for Equinoxes made between 2023-2024 for the exact issue/part replacement ours needs. However, we were not notified of this recall because our VIN number is not currently included in the recall.”

“Went to the grocery store, bought $300 worth of stuff, loaded it all in the back. Driving home, one of the bags full of bottles of wine fell over. Upon arriving home, tried to slowly and partially open the lift gate to prevent items from falling out. Hit button to open lift gate. With left hand, tried to slow down the opening while with right hand, reached in to catch loose bottles. Apparently my providing resistance to slow the opening was interpreted as some kind of "problem" causing the opening to reverse and causing the lift gate to close on my right arm. I now have a large abrasion…”

“Entering a freeway off-ramp at about 65 mph, I depressed the brakes and the brake pedal went to the floor with little resistance. Two error messages were displayed on the dashboard: "Brake System Failure - 62 MPH Top Speed" and "Service ESC". The following dashboard lights came on: Check Engine, Brake, ESC, ABS. I held the brake pedal to the floor and coasted to a complete stop at the intersection, then proceeded slowly into a nearby parking lot and stopped. Braking effort did not become difficult, rather it was reduced to a small fraction of normal braking power. An online search indicated th…”

“We bought a 2023 Chevy Equinox AWD specifically because it said it can be flat towed behind an RV. When towing it, we have noticed that when going around certain turns such as a cloverleaf on or off ramp, as you are in the turn, the tires start screeching loudly, you can smell burning rubber, and the RV feels like it's being tugged on by the car. As soon as the RV goes straight again, the screeching and tugging stop. This does not happen when turning a corner at a stop sign or stop light. We did not notice any warning lights on in the car after stopping to check on the vehicle. I feel thi…”

“Recall/Loss of Power I am filing a safety complaint regarding a 2023 Chevy Equinox. The vehicle began losing engine power and will not go over 40 mph. This creates a dangerous driving situation because the vehicle cannot maintain highway speed. The vehicle has a fuel system recall, and the issue appears to be related to the fuel system. The vehicle is currently at a Chevrolet dealership and has been there for almost a month. The vehicle is currently inoperable. The check engine light than began to flash for about 15 seconds before all the messages went away and normal driving conditions occurred. Taking it into the dealership they pulled from the computer the issue of "multiple cylinder misfire" but could not replicate the issue. “We bought the car in July 2023. We had it for a month then it started to smell like mildew and mold. It permeated into our clothes. We took it to the dealership and they had the car for about two months. When we got it back it smelled like strong soap, but after a week or two it started to smell again. We took it back again. This time they used Ionize. That lasted two days and it smells again.”

“When flat towing behind a motorhome, per manual instructions, going on or off a highway ramp....cloverleaf, the tires will squeal like they are dragging. This does not occur every time, however 75% of the time it does. A very loud screeching, dragging or braking, pulling the motorhome down from 35mph or 40mph to 10mph. This is also noticed occasionally on turns from one street to another, however short lived by comparison. The dragging/slowing is unnerving and dangerous to suddenly slow down with no brake action by the motorhome. This has occurred on several trips this summer (20…”

How we read this (methodology)
How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2023 Chevrolet Equinox draws about 22.5 complaints per year on the road, ranking 13 of 14 among the Chevrolet Equinox model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).
