“Passenger side, sliding door. The door closes on its own randomly but becoming more frequent. I have taken the van to the dealer multiple times and they can not figure out what is wrong. “The sensor to open the sliding door on our left side, that stops it from closing when something is in between, did not work today. My 5 year old was reaching in as it was closing to grab her jacket. I was in the front seat, about to get out. I heard the door close and her scream. Her hand was stuck with the door fully closed, and I had to push the Open button twice to get it to release her hand. The sensor should have prevented it from closing and did not.”

“The glass of the sunroof spontaneously shattered while driving down the highway. It made an explosion sound and dropped shards of glass all over myself and my child. I am in the process of finding replacement glass for the vehicle. It is less than a year old, and the dealer does not have replacement parts nor does it know when they can get one. There were no warnings before this happened. The vehicle has never had any damage and is stored in an interior garage. The damage happened at 55 degrees on a dry overcast day in Nashville, TN.”

We believe this same system has caused hard braking when changing from a through lane to a right turn lane without putting on the turn signal. It also "gently" brakes at times when the lane markings on one side or the other are faint or missing, we think the system sees this as a lane departure. The most recent sharp sudden braking almost caused us to be rear-ended. Along with this there are various issue…”

How we read this (methodology)

How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2022 Honda Odyssey draws about 25.4 complaints per year on the road, ranking 5 of 15 among the Honda Odyssey model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).

Before you buy this Honda Odyssey

Don't buy on the strength of a problems page alone. Check the exact VIN of the car you're looking at. The open recalls are free, and the full $19 safety report pulls every complaint, safety rating and a downloadable PDF for that one vehicle.
