NHTSA complaint #11745687, 2026

“I was trying to turn and the wheel kept kicking back the other direction. About a week prior to this as I was driving down the road all of a sudden the wheel threw me across a median and into incoming traffic almost causing multiple accidents. I have a video of it but it won’t allow me to upload it. [XXX] However this link should play it. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)”

I stopped at the next intersection and when I applied the gas, the truck shuttered, started to go then just stopped. It stayed running but didn't want to go. I was able to get it through the intersection but that was it. The message i am getting is powertrain malfunction/reduced power. When we put our diagnosis tool on it, we get code P0757.”

“I was involved in an accident. During the accident none of the airbags deployed. The impact was so hard that it lifted the truck up off the ground and spinned us around 90 degrees. This resulted in the individuals seated on the passenger side of the truck to be thrown into the door fairly hard, with one passenger hitting her head on the window even with the seatbelt on. “When driving at normal speed, my truck completely shut down with no warning. The instrument panel went dark and the engine shut off. I do not believe I was able to steer, though I think the brakes allowed me to slow the vehicle to a stop. I was near an intersection, so I was lucky to not have been hit from the rear or run in to traffic in front of me. The vehicle was unresponsive and would not turn back on. I was stuck blocking 1 lane of traffic for an hour because the vehicle could not be steered or taken out of gear to push it to the side of the road. I inspected the battery connection and n…”

People will rear end me if they don’t see my brake lights. I am a retired, master mechanic, and my son is also a mechanic. NHTSA complaint #11685134, 2025

“The component that failed on this vehicle was the restraint control module (RCM). It was replaced by the dealer and is not available for inspection. The safety of the driver I believe was at risk due to the vehicle occupant sensor not showing an occupant and only showing a question mark on the dash display. This was also causing an airbag and seat belt indicator light. The problem has been reproduced by a dealer. The problem first showed a rear seat occupant issue and then started showing for the left front seat. Showing an air bag and seat belt indicator.”

“The 2022 Ford Maverick has a design flaw the harms the environment and places driver and passengers at risk. Specifically the vehicle does not have a metal skid plate which places the Evap System at risk for damage. If the system is damaged the vehicle is still driveable, but doing so allows gas vapors into the environment and worse, possibly into the passenger compartment. Looking under the vehicle, one finds some sort of fabric or mesh material which is definately not robust enough to protect the evap system components from damage. “Never in all my years of driving have I or anyone i know experienced a vehicle with such a sensitive windshield that cracks with even minimal impact. I've owned this Ford maverick for under 3 years with 3 chip repairs and 2 replacements. This is unfair to consumers as often we are not aware of this issue until it is too late to change undo the purchases on these vehicles and have to drive faulty vehicles. How we read this (methodology)

How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2022 Ford Maverick draws about 29.2 complaints per year on the road, ranking 2 of 3 among the Ford Maverick model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).
