“Shift to park warning/beeping when already in park. Happening multiple times and different days”
NHTSA complaint #11748701, 2026
“The two components that failed were the water pump and the coolant control valve which caused the engine to overheat, resulting in me having to pull over along the side of a busy highway putting me at risk for injury while the vehicle cooled down. It would be available for inspection upon request. This was dangerous mostly to myself due to having to pull over on the side of a busy highway and wait until the vehicle could be somewhat ok to be driven the rest of the way home. I had to drive very slowly home with my hazards on at a very low speed. Vehicle was brought to a nearby Chevy dealership…”

“I was driving down the highway when the 3 bolts holding the exhaust under the car broke off. My exhaust was dragging down the highway until I could safely get pulled over. The bolts are welded in of course so you can’t just put new bolts in you have to replace the whole catalytic converter, which is a pain to do unless you take it to the dealer and pay $2000.”

“The car showed an error message saying shift to park when trying to turn the car off. The car was in park and showed in park on the dashboard & shifter but the error message still said it wasn’t in park. While this error is showing it will not allow the car to shut off or lock doors. I have a little over 19k miles on this car and should not have this issue. After researching this has been a know issue with their vehicles for years and it still has not been addressed.”

“Vehicle stalled and shut off while driving in moving traffic on multiple occasions, resulting in sudden loss of power steering and brake assist — a significant safety hazard. Battery failed at 32,860 miles (September 2025) with all low voltage codes. Battery replaced by dealer. Vehicle continued to exhibit stalling, no-start, and Battery Saver Active warnings. Dealer has been unable to resolve the recurring issue across three visits (RO 510659, RO 518708, RO 523715) at Chevrolet of Culver City, Culver City CA. “Shifter does not recognize its in park, from what I read this affects thousands. Why am I having to sit in my car for minutes at a time? is Chevy not required to handle the fixing of that switch. What a subpar design team they have. I just had to cough up over $800 to fix rusting because of shit wheel design that doesn't protect those components. Absolutely unacceptable to have consumers not only buy a car but then not issue a recall over the switch just inside the console I guess they want to con thousands to pay for a new shifter?”

“All 3 bolts that connect my tailpipe underneath my car failed. This caused the tailpipe to disconnect from the car, meaning I was pushing the pipe as I drove. Luckily it failed when I was at an intersection, and I heard the noise. I was able to drive slowly into a parking lot and disconnect the exhaust for a repair. However, if I had been traveling down a highway when it occurred the pipe surely would've hit a bump and then jammed the rest of the exhaust back up into the under carriage of the vehicle and perhaps causing an accident. I did email the dealership I purchased the vehicle from,…”

“My car has been well maintained and always taken for service according to recommendations from the manufacturer. My brakes have ALWAYS squealed since I first bought it new but apparently there’s nothing they can do about it so I’ve just dealt with it. Now a more serious concern I am having after manufacturer warranty is my dash is displaying a shift to park message every time I shift into park and turn off my car. I also might add that this has been going on with others! Chevy doesn’t think it’s a concern when it is a very serious issue. I have children and once when I went to get gas after al…”

“Two weeks before the accident, a warning message appeared on my car’s dashboard stating: “FORWARD COLLISION SYSTEM REDUCED.” Naturally, I was concerned. I immediately contacted the dealership, but they failed to return my call. I followed up a few days later, and they told me to bring the car in the next day. When I went in, I explained my serious concerns. I informed them it was urgent, but no one followed up. Days later, I called again and was told to bring the vehicle in. When I did, I asked about a rental vehicle (previously provided during another incident), but was told no rental would be offered until the car underwent diagnostics, which would take 3–4 business days. While driving at highway speed or going uphill, up ramp, down hill, down ramp the engine loses power and enters reduce power mode, making it difficult or impossible to maintain speed or safely merge with traffic. “The exhaust system and muffler fell off the bottom of my vehicle. The bolts holding the exhaust together failed and broke which led to this. This is a common failure with the newer trailblazer that GM is failing to acknowledge. There have been multiple reports of this. I had my vehicle inspected by Webb Chevy in oak Lawn IL and all the mechanic could say is “they don’t make them like they used to” which means they know this problem exists. This 100% put me at risk as I could’ve crashed with my daughter in the car when the muffler disconnected causing it to scrape and lose power. This was e…”

“The exhaust and muffler completely detached from the catalytic converter/exhaust manifold while driving down the road. If we were driving at a higher rate of speed, the exhaust pipe could've caught on any imperfection on the roadway and shot the rear end of the vehicle up and then potentially caused an accident/death. This has happened to many I have discovered upon further research and is a common problem with the vehicle according to the dealership. Vehicle has been towed to the dealership to be inspected and/or repaired. Zero warning signals, lamps, or messages.”

How we read this (methodology)
How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer draws about 21.2 complaints per year on the road, ranking 2 of 4 among the Chevrolet Trailblazer model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).
