“Vehicle displays Shift to Park when vehicle is in park & you push the ignition button & audible chime occurs. Apparently this is a known issue for Chevrolet Trailblazers & Buick Encore GX vehicles model year 2021 & newer. You have to either wiggle the gear shifter several times & depress/wiggle the shift lever button in order to turn off the vehicle. Sometimes it takes 5 minutes to get it to work.”

NHTSA complaint #11749755, 2026

“The shift to park is defective on mine and many other GM vehicles. I had it previously repaired under manufacturer warranty and then again in just over 16,000 miles driven which fell outside of the manufacturer warranty. I had to pay out of pocket for the repairs and GM refused to reimburse me for the repairs. GM has a service bulletin recognizing the defective part and still refused reimbursement. The shift to park causes the vehicle to not recognize the vehicle is in park preventing it from shutting off. This causes the battery to drain and need replacement as well. I have now had the…”

NHTSA complaint #11431843, 2021 · crash · fire

“I am submitting this report regarding my 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer because it has been experiencing the "Shift to Park" issue described in the GM bulletin 19-NA-206. Even when the vehicle is shifted into Park, it intermittently displays a "Shift to Park" message and does not recognize that the transmission is in Park. This issue has been ongoing and has not resolved despite normal use of the vehicle. It is frustrating to deal with on a regular basis, and it appears to be the same condition addressed by GM in Technical Service Bulletin 19-NA-206 that is available to view on the NHTSA website.…”

“My trailblazer will not shift properly into drive from park or reverse. GM calls this a "loss of forward motion" or "delayed forward engagement" in their service bulletin TSB-24-NA-009. It is a safety issue because you never know when or how long the vehicle will take to engage and allow forward movement. This causes issues when leaving a parking spot or a driveway, especially on busy roads. If the car will not move forward, my family is stuck in the road until it finally engages into gear and allows forward movement. When this occurs, the vehicle engine will shutter and not allow any…”

“Vehicle has 67,000 miles and suffered a catastrophic CVT transmission failure, documented by dealership diagnostic code P2714. The transmission severely slips and exhibits a dangerous 15-second delay to engage forward gear after shifting into Drive. More critically, the vehicle suffers from unpredictable engine stalling. The car completely shut down and stalled in traffic while trying to accelerate into a driving lane after shifting. The vehicle did not trigger any dashboard safety warnings, limp mode, or "Reduced Engine Power" messages prior to shutting down, causing an un-warned loss of moti…”

I checked for the code and it was P1467 for the Evap Purge Pump. I took it to a dealership in Miami and they told me it would be fine to drive that the part needed to be replaced. I drove back to key west and bought the replacement part. That same part did not work. I checked to see if the part was receiving voltage and it was. So i will continue with going to the dealership. The battery light came on after the issue started and so the car service place charged us to replace the battery, because they had to turn on and of the car a lot and the car had to continue to run. Upon attempting to brake and execute a left hand turn, the car would not turn at all despite the steering wheel being as turned as far to the left as possible, the lights began flashing on the dashboard for "PowerSteering" ESC warning. “On 5 separate occasions the windshield wipers have stopped working while in use. The wipers returned to the home position and would not turn back on. Each time I had to get safely to the side of the road and stop shut the car off while travelling at highway speeds. After 10-15 minutes the wipers began working until the next incident. “Wiper system failed. No function of front wipers. Issue occurred on freeway, in heavy rain conditions, with fast moving traffic surrounding. Visibility with the inability to clear the windshield was at a minimum or not possible. Required pulling over, could have easily caused collision with no forward vision. Vehicle is currently at a dealership for evaluation. Previously brought into dealership, “no problem found” reported by the dealership mechanics. Three separate occurrences of this issue. No other warnings or lights associated.”
NHTSA complaint #11516507, 2023

“Front wipers spray only on one side, the working side changes, sometimes it only squirts on one side, sometimes it sprays over top the roof of the car, sometimes it doesn't work at all. Reservoir is full, rear window spray nozzles always work properly. I'm unable to wash away debris, in winter with snowy roads it can leave salty/muddy windows. Sap from the trees & pollen create poor visibility. No warning lights are on, never have been. This happened without incident.”

I had tire replaced. Then at 39K miles, all the the other tires were already getting worn out. I've NEVER had tires wear about pre-40K miles in all my life. How we read this (methodology)

How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer draws about 31.5 complaints per year on the road, ranking 1 of 4 among the Chevrolet Trailblazer model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).

Before you buy this Chevrolet Trailblazer

Don't buy on the strength of a problems page alone. Check the exact VIN of the car you're looking at. The open recalls are free, and the full $19 safety report pulls every complaint, safety rating and a downloadable PDF for that one vehicle.
