Honda, unlike other manufacturers the use the same transmission, does NOT supply an emergency over ride to get the transmission out of park ( hazard). Forward Collision Avoidance 13
“The vehicle's front-facing monocular camera experienced an internal component failure that triggered a permanent error code U3000-49. This hardware failure instantly disabled multiple core safety features simultaneously, including the Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation, and Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) ABS Braking and High Beam Support with all dash lights remaining on. The sudden, unexpected loss of automatic safety braking and driver-assist features while moving poses an immediate highway safety risk.”
NHTSA complaint #11754863, 2026
“Multi purpose camera behind front mirror failed. Most safety systems will not work. Various warnings regarding system failure were noted on dash. Supposedly a bad battery installed and warranted by dealer caused this problem? Dealer covered the battery but charged $2100.00 to replace the camera!”
NHTSA complaint #11681392, 2025
“My Honda 2020 ridgeline has intermittent faults on the dash monitor, it displays ACC, LKAS, Collision Mitigation, High beam, lane departure warnings, and sometimes transmission problem. I am told it is the muti cable assembly sensor on the front window not communicating with the other sensors. I took my car to auto zone and they stated no communication, due to a bad battery. I replaced the battery, and it still has the multiple errors/ fault codes. During research several people have had this problem with Honda vehicles. At times it goes away for a day or two and then comes back with the same…”

“I own a 2020 Honda ridgeline pick up truck. For many months, I have been aware of an existing recall on the rear view camera tailgate wire harness and have received two notices. I have been at the dealer twice to have it repaired, the last time of which they canceled my appointment the day before the repair saying they don’t have any parts and that I will hear sometime Late fall. Honda has been aware of this problem with the rear camera tailgate wire harness because of recalls on the 2017 through 2019 models. “Auto dimming/high beam feature flickers on and off intermittently at night without little relation to oncoming vehicles or dark highways. I have asked my local dealer twice to repair this problem, with no resolution. (see attached invoices). I also opened case with the manufacturer (Honda), and they declined to address my issue. I believe this is a safety issue because it is distracting to me and oncoming drivers.”

“On May 31, 2023, my wife and I were in our Honda ridgeline when attempting to back up into a parking spot. We noticed the instrument cluster went dark with only a "P" flashing. There were no alarms or indications of any fault. We shut down the truck. After trying to restart there was no instrument cluster along with the shifter locked in park. On this current model their is no emergency override out of park as on other vehicles. We had traffic backed up for hours as we called a tow truck to move the vehicle from the main street. Upon the ridgeline being towed to the local Honda dealer. They s…”

“Side view mirrors were replaced for a recall. Replacement drivers side mirror was wavy and distorted. Made me not want to use it. More dangerous to drive not wanting to use that mirror.”
NHTSA complaint #11573967, 2024
“I had my driver and passenger side mirrors replaced because of the issued recall. However, the new driver's mirror is now very distorted and causes a fun-house effect. This is a safety issue and it impacts visibility and safe operation of the vehicle while in motion. A quick review of online owner forums reveals this to be a common issue after the original mirror recall was issued. Please get Honda to issue a new recall and replace with adequate, safe mirrors!”

“Honda Ridgeline model year 2020. Rear view camera intermittently not working. Issue can be temporally resolved by opening the tailgate in one of the two ways (flip down or swing out) Diagnosed by dealer as requiring a tailgate harness replacement. This appears to be same/similar to the 2017-2019 recall KCK 2017-19. (Honda service bulletin 22-049)”

“Auto stop start does not work properly in this vehicle after repeated fixes by Honda and dealership. Vehicle sometimes does not restart after stop start engaged at stop causing a stall like event. Auto stop start tries to start vehicle after stop but vehicle either stalls/fails to restart or is extremely slow to restart. Vehicle has been repaired, new starter, new battery, new relays less than one year ago and vehicle is now experiencing the same issues. “My 2020 Honda Ridgeline has an Auto Idle/Start system. The truck engine turns off when it stops, then automatically turns on when brake is released or gas pedal pressed. There was a Honda notice issued that the system may not automatically restart. A fix (software update) from Honda was implemented on my truck on 03/29/23. This "fix" did not work. On 09/05/25 at 1:25 pm I pulled up to an intersection. The Auto Idle system automatically turned off the engine as intended. About 2 minutes later, when the brake was released and gas pedal pressed, the engine did not restart. The truck sta…”

“Whenever I’m driving in my vehicle everything seems to be fine until I stop at a red light. On three separate occasions, while my vehicle is stopped it will automatically go into neutral and stall. This causes my truck not to run properly. I have to shut my car off, and then turn it back on to put it in drive and operate it like normal. I’m unsure what my cars issue is but it is an inconvenience and a safety concern due to it keeps happening while in traffic.”

“Since buying this vehicle new, on multiple occasions the automatic braking system has come on approaching other vehicles on a straight stretch of highway even when both I and the approaching vehicle are nowhere near the center line or anywhere near an accident situation. I reported this to the dealership in the first six months after purchase and was told nothing was wrong. The frequency of this happening seems to be increasing.”

“Sudden spontaneous moonroof explosion. Traveling at approximately 60mph I experienced a spontaneous explosion of the moonroof while it was closed and the headliner was closed. Glass flew into following traffic. There was no oncoming traffic and we were not following anyone. Sky’s were clear and the road was dry and paved. This was a loud and distracting event and if the headliner cover wasn’t closed it could have been much more serious. This happened around 10am MDT yesterday June 25 2023. The vehicle had about 20300 miles on the odometer.”

“I received a Recall Notice #21V-932 per Honda Service Bulletin 21-086 and took my 2020 Honda Ridgeline in on March 22, 2022. The recall notice specifies that gaps between Hood Seal and Grill allow for air entry that leads to hood vibration allowing the hood latch to break loose and hood to open while driving. I have such an air gap and to make matters worse this gap also allows elements to enter my engine compartment getting everything wet/soiled- including electricals. After the recall repair was competed, I still had a sizable air gap between the hood seal and the grill. The Dealer Ser…”

Same thing they told me at Honda Mossy Lemon Grove that corrosion and rust are not warranted by Honda.”

How we read this (methodology)
How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2020 Honda Ridgeline draws about 23.7 complaints per year on the road, ranking 4 of 13 among the Honda Ridgeline model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).
Before you buy this Honda Ridgeline
Don't buy on the strength of a problems page alone. Check the exact VIN of the car you're looking at. The open recalls are free, and the full $19 safety report pulls every complaint, safety rating and a downloadable PDF for that one vehicle.
