Sets a service code in computer and has been in at local Honda dealer twice and they found failure code in computer but cannot duplicate problem. I also learned part associated with code is on back order. Dealership charges us for diagnosing each time. When this alarm goes on, it makes you panic that the sliding door may open at any time or may not close.”

NHTSA complaint #11426338, 2021
Latches/Locks/Linkages 2
“I became aware of a news article and videos of a documented security problem with Hondas where someone can use a device to unlock any Honda made in last 10 years and also remotely start the vehicle without leaving any trace of the intrusion. This poses many obvious security and safety risks to a Honda vehicle owner. Example, someone could gain access to a locked vehicle and steal contents. Or they could enter and hide in the back and attack someone. Or they could unlock the car and use the built in garage door opener to gain access to a home. Or they could even start a car remotely in a garage…”
NHTSA complaint #11473553, 2022

The tracks/path for the doors were checked for obstructions and none were found. After multiple repeated attempts at closing (more than ten on each side), the doors were successfully closed. After several additional hours of driving, the same scenario played out at our next fuel stop. The vehicle would have been unsafe to operate had the problem not resolved itself. The doors could not be closed by using the neithe…”

How we read this (methodology)
How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2020 Honda Odyssey draws about 62.7 complaints per year on the road, ranking 3 of 15 among the Honda Odyssey model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).
Before you buy this Honda Odyssey
Don't buy on the strength of a problems page alone. Check the exact VIN of the car you're looking at. The open recalls are free, and the full $19 safety report pulls every complaint, safety rating and a downloadable PDF for that one vehicle.
