“The safety features connected to the camera and vehicle sensors have all stopped working. Every time I start my car, multiple lights come on and dashboard messages that cruise control, lane assist and collision prevention systems are not working. The dealership quoted me $2300 to fix and said new sensors/computer system would need to be put in and calibrated. I tried putting a new battery in, which unfortunately did not help. I have heard of multiple other Passport drivers having this issue.”

“The Automatic brake goes on and off randomly. It has caused an accident in my vehicle and also two flat tires and wheel damage. The sensors will make it brake on a smooth road with no vehicles nearby. It will also brake in the rain while turning a corner. It has put my safety at risk. I have a child under 1 year old that should this brake system lock up on me and cause an accident with my child in the car it could pose serious harm. This has been an issue since I first received the vehicle.”

“There has been multiple times that my 2019 passport has had the “brake” indicator pop up on my dash telling me to brake when there is nothing there I mean like a completely empty road. There has been a handful of times that it has actually stopped my car like slammed the brakes when there is nothing around or a couple times when a car was passing on the other side of the roadway. This has happened multiple times with someone driving behind me and I fear it could cause a crash due to the car randomly braking so hard.”

Suspension 1
“Rear tires wearing out inside prematurely due to wheel alignment got off, install all new tires and did wheel alignment and found out that camber adjustment required to fix the issues but repair shop and even Honda dealer can’t adjust camber settings since camber is not adjustable in 2019 Honda passport. Honda dealership told me to go somewhere else and have them install aftermarket camber adjustable kit? Totally unacceptable. If can’t fix this problem then my tires will wear out prematurely again. Honda should recall this and have it replace with adjustable camber.”
NHTSA complaint #11540355, 2023
How we read this (methodology)
How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2019 Honda Passport draws about 33.8 complaints per year on the road, ranking 1 of 6 among the Honda Passport model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).
Before you buy this Honda Passport
Don't buy on the strength of a problems page alone. Check the exact VIN of the car you're looking at. The open recalls are free, and the full $19 safety report pulls every complaint, safety rating and a downloadable PDF for that one vehicle.
