“Passenger sliding door automatically closes intermittently while opening has been an ongoing issue at one point closed on my youngest daughters leg smashing between door and door jam. Understanding it opening while closing because something was in its path but not closing during the point operation. This is been reported to the dealership many times also gave them a video of it happening, told if we don’t see it we can’t fix it.”

“The sensor on the passenger sliding door failed to work when the engine was on. Once the engine was off, the sliding door would close. The problem was reproduced by a Honda dealer service and while they were checking with the extended warranty to see if the sensor would be paid for, they let me take the van home for regular use. The next day, the door would not close with or without the engine on. We were not home and we could not leave the van in the parking lot or drive home with the door open, with our two young boys in the middle row in their carseats. My husband stood outside with the van…”

I parked the vehicle around 8.10 am and I got the call from my facilities manager around 8.30-8.40 am that my car caught on fire and by that time I noticed Houston Fire Department extinguishing the fire. “I have received warning lights associated with safety features controlled by front facing windshield camera indicating that the ACC, auto braking, lane departure and front collision avoidance features were not working. This has happened once before just over a year ago and I was told by the dealer that the camera needed to be replaced. I did so, at a cost of over $2K. All features worked again after the costly replacement, until last month, just outside of the one year warranty on the new camera. This is clearly an issue with either the camera or a connected electrical issue. This van also h…”

“I have a 2019 Odyssey Elite and the following lights come on: Adaptive cruise control problem (ACC); Auto high-beam problem (A); Road departure mitigation system problem; collision mitigation system problem; lane keeping assist problem (LKAS); brake system lights. My problem is intermittent. I can make it go away most of the time by pouring water over the camera or spraying it from the windshield wipers fluid, then turning the car off and back on. That works sometimes. This makes me think it may be due to heat as the windshield (especially the black web lines around the camera) gets very hot…”

“The mirror has become detached on the drivers side. The same issue that has been reported as a recall for 2020-2022 Honda odyssey. My vehicle is 2019 and has the same issue. It is not bonded properly. It is a safety hazard. The dealership said I need to pay to have it replaced. However it should be that my car is included in the recall.”

“On February 1, 2023, I broke the side view mirror off the passenger side door while backing into my parents driveway (the mirror hit a bush on the side of their house). Called Honda dealership and ordered (and paid for) replacement part on Feb 2, 2023 - was told the part should be in within a few weeks. By approximately February 20th, the part was still not in, and the dealer had no ETA. So I opened an inquiry with Honda. On/around February 27th, I was told by my customer service rep Nikki that my part was upgraded to critical backorder, but that there was still no ETA. However, I was #6…”

Chest Clip 2
“The chest clip is opening without having to press down the buttons to release it. It is magnetic and I'm able to open it with my non-dominant hand. I am not sure exactly how the child's safety was put at risk, but I imagine it is not safe to have a chest clip that can undo easily. The seat has not been inspected.”

“We were leaving a car dealership to head home, my husband put our toddler in his car seat and after doing the pinch test, pulled on the chest buckle to make sure it was tight enough. When he pulled the chest buckle, it loosened both harness belts. We attempted the same scenario over 20 times and each time you could pull on the chest clip and retract both harness belts. Without pushing the button to retract. Nothing is stuck in the car seat as our child doesn't eat or drink in his seat. We uninstalled and reinstalled, opened the seat, etc and there is no issue that we could correct. Our son's l…”

“There is a plastic cap holding in a metal bar on the underside of the car seat that came off. The metal bar could potentially become a projectile. I’m unsure of the purpose of the metal bar. If it is for latching into the base, structure integrity, or seatbelt. The car seat has not been inspected by the manufacturer has requested it be shipped back and has provided a shipping label, however I have to acquire a new car seat to use in the meantime first and find a box that will accommodate the car seat. Normal everyday use caused the part to come off. I’m not sure at what time it happened or…”

How we read this (methodology)
How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2019 Honda Odyssey draws about 114.0 complaints per year on the road, ranking 1 of 15 among the Honda Odyssey model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).
Before you buy this Honda Odyssey
Don't buy on the strength of a problems page alone. Check the exact VIN of the car you're looking at. The open recalls are free, and the full $19 safety report pulls every complaint, safety rating and a downloadable PDF for that one vehicle.
