“On June 17, 2022 I had front end collision. I was stopped at a traffic light and went to move up closer to the car in front of me. When I touched the accelerator my accelerated very quickly in and removed my foot from the pedal. The engine continued to rev even though my foot was on the break. I was not seriously injured. The car that I hit had 2 people in it and they looked ok at the scene. I think they are being evaluated for injuries. I am waiting to take it to Progressive Insurance Network collision center. But they don’t seem to be interested in anything but body work.”

“Driving 35 mph in my 2019 CRV EX, and all of a sudden, the brake started braking on its own. There was no warning, and the brake warning light came on several times with the brake braking on and off several times. There were not any objects, cars, or obstructions around. We (friend as passenger) came to a sudden stop when the braking first started up. It felt like major whiplash with jerking like motions. This lasted about 5 seconds and was just shocking. Our chests hurt afterwards, and it felt like the life was taken out of us. I was not using the cruise control/CMBS on at the time, but it wa…”

“"sticky steering" - After turning the steering wheel a few degrees to the left, there is some resistance when turning it back to the center. It happens mostly at highway speeds, and happens more in hot weather. The safety issue is that it makes it harder to keep a straight course on the highway because the small adjustments a driver normally makes are more difficult. And, when overcoming resistance to turn the wheel back to center, it is easy to overcorrect and turn the wheel too far to the right.”

The ABS system felt like it was reversing the brakes EVERYTIME I stepped on the pedal. I hit my garage door because of this: Honda wanted me to pay to fix the wire because "I had a handicap plate that probably broke the wire" yet I never put my handicap placard on my mirror but rather on my dashboard. “The vehicle began experiencing repeated engine misfires, hesitation, and loss of power during normal driving. The issue was diagnosed as failing fuel injectors, which is a known issue on this generation of Honda CR-V. The failure causes sudden hesitation and reduced engine power, particularly during acceleration and at intersections, creating a safety hazard in traffic. In some instances there was a strong fuel odor, raising concern for a potential fuel leak and fire risk. The injectors failed well before normal service life and required replacement. “Flashing through brightness settings by itself, low through dark and runs in loop whenever sunlight hits it directly. It looks like the auto dimming is getting crazy when sunlight hits directly. Reported issue with Honda. They issued a service bulletin (19-066) to the dealers to update the radio software if cars are still on warranty. However no recall was issued and customers have to pay dealers to get it updated for a manufactures defect.”

“Electrical System problem //I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding a recurring and serious issue with my 2019 Honda CR-V. Multiple dashboard warning lights turn on simultaneously without clear explanation. These lights are extremely distracting while driving and present a significant safety concern. What’s even more troubling is that we have no idea why these lights are coming on. This uncertainty puts us in a dangerous situation—driving without knowing whether the vehicle might stall, break down, or suffer another critical failure at any moment.Given that this appears to be a co…”

“Having done some research I discovered that my problem seems to be happening to a number of CRV owners. My signal lights are flickering while the car is turned off. I discovered that Honda had done a recall to fix this problem on several other models but not the CRV. From what I can determine is that this is a problem with the Body Control Module. I feel that there seems to be a lot of CRV with the same problem and maybe your Organization might want to look into this. To see what has been posted you can go to UTube and type in the link (2017 CRV lights flickering when car is off)”

“The passenger side seat weight sensor assembly failed. It is available for inspection. The vehicle has been inspected and repaired by a certified Honda dealer. The airbag light stayed on beginning in December 2023. The SRS warning light came on in March 2024. This defect was subject to a recall of CRV’s manufactured from 2020 to 2022. We believe the 2019 vehicles were affected also and should have been part of the recall. Honda has recognized this problem and has reimbursed us $800 of the $1758.68 of the repair bill.”
NHTSA complaint #11582854, 2024

“My friend reached under the driver seat and felt a bolt under it. Turns out, it was one of the 4 bolts that holds the seats frame to the car. This was the right front bolt and it completely fell out! I checked the other 3 bolts still in, but the left front was also significantly loose! I had to get an Allen wrench and bolt them back in and tighten them! The passenger seat bolts were still in but also very loose! This is dangerous if I was in an accident my front seat bolts weren't tight and one was completely out, only holding the seat in 3 of 4 places!”

Tires 5

“My safety has been put at risk using these Bridgestone Ecopia (235/60R/18) tires. They were purchased in 2024 and after a little more than a year and 14,000K miles the front tires are wearing unevenly with little tread left and in need of replacement. There are two (2) known recalls and eight (8) consumer complaints about these tires (see attached). I am seeking reimbursement towards replacement tires I have complained to Honda (where tires were purchased) and the Better Business as well.”

“The indirect TPMS system on my 2019 Honda CRV is a safety hazard. The TPMS alert light stays on all the time, even when all tires are properly inflated, when all tires are the manufacturers recommended size, and all tires have adequate tread to meet all safety regulations. The dealer acknowledges the system is poorly designed and was probably implemented because it is cheaper to manufacture than a direct TPMS system. The dealers have no remedy, therefore, Honda should be forced to recall the vehicles and make necessary changes to create an effective TPMS system.”

The driver depressed the accelerator pedal, but the vehicle failed to exceed 15 MPH. The failure persisted while driving to the residence. “I have owned my Honda since it had 11 miles on it, brand new in the parking lot I took it home. I’ve noticed in the past few months since September of 2022 ish the lane assist, and lane departure do not work now. Out of 100 times I drive the lane keep only works maybe 5/100 times. I called the dealership explaining how it’s a safety concern if it ever defected. And it’s not keeping me in the lane or even trying to read the lines on the road. The dealer wanted $199 just to look at it. I ended up watching a YouTube video, disconnecting and cleaning my battery, resetting all systems and computer.…”

“The TPMS, a federally mandated safety system, has a persistent and intermittent communication fault, causing the warning lamp to remain illuminated. This renders the critical safety system inoperable, preventing notification of dangerously low tire pressure and placing vehicle occupants at risk. The fault first appeared since April 2025 after the vehicle required a jump start. Independent Diagnosis: An ASE-certified independent service center confirmed the persistent TPMS communication code. Exhaustive diagnostics verified that the battery, charging, starting systems, and parasitic draw are…”

“My tire pressure light has gone on 10 plus times in the last year and I think only 3 times my tire was actually low on air. This is a safety feature because you need your tires to drive. The dealer has advised they can’t find an issue with the sensor etc and keeps telling me it’s the tread etc and wants to show me how to recalibrate the system. I worry every time I get into the car that the light is going to go on and hear a binging sound. It’s very nerve wracking because I only have just shy of 34k miles on the car and it continues to happen. If I ignored it and turned out there was a flat…”

Other/I Am Not Sure 1

How we read this (methodology)

How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2019 Honda CR-V draws about 134.2 complaints per year on the road, ranking 1 of 13 among the Honda CR-V model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).

Don't buy on the strength of a problems page alone. Check the exact VIN of the car you're looking at. The open recalls are free, and the full $19 safety report pulls every complaint, safety rating and a downloadable PDF for that one vehicle.
