Steering 80 2 crash

“I was driving straight going 35mph on a 2 lane rd when my steering wheel starting making a weird noise & almost was shaking. The steering wheel then locked up to the left & wouldn’t move. This caused my driver side tire to go into the curb, & at this point my steering wheel was spinning in circles & all I could do was brake. After bumping off the curb I then was thrusted back over to the right lane (due to having no steering control) where I came to a stop grazing another vehicle. My insurance performed diagnostics on the vehicle & determined the steering rack housing assembly part failed, cau…”

“My 2019 Honda Civic is experiencing paint chipping on the mirrors and door handles. I've noticed others reporting similar problems. The paint is literally bubbling off. When I contacted Honda of America, they acknowledged that it's atypical and indicative of a product defect, but stated they couldn't assist as it's out of warranty and no recalls have been issued at this time. It’s crazy to me a car that spends the majority of the time in a garage has this type of issue. I took to dealership and asked if there was a recall and they told me only on newer models but not on my car model. “When selecting Reverse, the rearview camera usually displays quickly, but sometimes takes several seconds to display, or doesn't display at all (the screen remains black). This detracts from my ability to reverse safely. The radio / vehicle information display usually responds quickly to a button press, but sometimes can take several seconds to respond. Since I don't anticipate the delay, I tend to continue watching the screen while I'm waiting for it to react, instead of paying attention to the road. Especially while driving at highway speeds, these intermittent, variable delays can take my a…”

“I SKIDDED BACKWARDS DOWN THE STREET IN SNOWY CONDITIONS BECAUSE 2019 HONDA CIVIC SI WAS SHIPPED WITH SUMMER TIRES INSTEAD OF ALL SEASON TIRES. THE MANUFACTURER'S WINDOW STICKER INDICATED THAT ALL SEASON TIRES WERE INSTALLED WHEN IN FACT, THEY WERE SUMMER TIRES WHICH WERE TOTALLY UNSUITED TO DRIVING IN NEW ENGLAND IN WINTER. I ONLY DISCOVERED THIS AFTER I WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR. HONDA IS AWARE OF THIS AND HAS ISSUED SERVICE BULLETIN 19-007, BUT HAS NOT NOTIFIED ALL OF THE DEALERS AND HAS NOT CONTACTED THE OWNERS DIRECTLY.”

How we read this (methodology)

How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2019 Honda Civic draws about 43.5 complaints per year on the road, ranking 1 of 5 among the Honda Civic model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).
