“Bought my car in 2019. Was unaware of coolant intrusion problem on my vehicle. Check engine light came on and mechanic just quoted me $13,000 to fix.”
NHTSA complaint #11751983, 2026

“While driving we noticed the engine light came on so we took it to our local mechanic. He said we were leaking coolant and it was too extensive fro him to fix so he suggested we put coolant in every few days. We researched the problem and found that these cars had a recall for this exact issue yet our VIN does not show it. We went to Ford Dealership and they confirmed we need a new engine as they connected the IDS. This vehicle was built at the Hermosillo plant, has the same 1.5L EcoBoost engine, and has experienced the exact coolant intrusion failure that Ford recalled or extended coverage…”

It is unavailable most of the time, other times the screen is black, sometimes it’ll work and then cut out. There is a recall on other ford vehicles for this issue. I looked up if it needs a software update and it doesn’t. We’ve checked the camera and wiring harness and they’re both intact and in good condition.”

“This has happened multiple times now. Always happens at high speeds (greater than 45 mph). I will be driving on a highway when I unexpectedly lose the ability to accelerate. First noticed in correlation with the collision detection feature showing on the display as NOT FUNCTIONING. That does not happen anymore, but I still lose the ability to accelerate periodically. Once I can safely remove myself from the flow of traffic and stop/restart my car the issue is resolved. Makes me believe this is electrical/computer origin. How we read this (methodology)

How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2019 Ford Fusion draws about 46.2 complaints per year on the road, ranking 2 of 3 among the Ford Fusion model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).
