“Complete transmission failure at 76,000 miles.”
NHTSA complaint #11754603, 2026
“Transmission is shifting roughly and unexpectedly. Goes from high gear into low gear without warning for example going 45-50 in 10th gear and downshifts suddenly to 1st or 2nd gear causing vehicle to rapidly slow down throwing driver and passengers forward and possible being rear ended scenario.”
NHTSA complaint #11754334, 2026
“This problem started a few months ago. In the first few minutes of driving my truck each morning i have been experiencing problems with my truck shifting. Sometimes there is a lag. Sometimes there is unexpected shift. Sometimes it jumps from 10th gear to 1st. It can be jarring at times. Then by the time i get to where i am going the problems seem to go away. Lately, the problems show up slightly, later in the day. And most recently, the little wrench light came on, indicating a "Powertrain malfunction / Reduced power" With the description "The transmission control module has detected a co…”

Back Over Prevention 2
“Transmission does not shift or grab gears and would make me be stuck in the middle of the road.”
NHTSA complaint #11746840, 2026
“The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while the transmission was downshifting, there was a loud bang coming from the transmission, with a popping sound coming from the rear suspension. The contact stated that the sound was most apparent when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact stated that the message that the driver’s side rear door was open, causing the light to remain illuminated even though the door was securely closed. During the failure, the lights inside and outside the vehicle remained illuminated, causing the battery to become drained. The contact stated th…”

Electrical System 2
“While driving my vehicle (2019 Ford F150), it suddenly came to a complete stop. The engine shut off and the steering wheel locked up. While in the middle of a roadway, I had to quickly throw my vehicle into park, turn it off and back on. At that point, it was running again and I was able to safely get it to a dealership where it was inspected for an issues. There were no warnings, alerts or messages on my dashboard. The dealership confirmed what had happened. It was due to the electronic steering system failing. They fixed it and so far there has been no issues. This is not the first time I…”

NHTSA complaint #11746712, 2026
“While driving on a highway, my 2019 Ford F-150 suddenly lost power during acceleration due to a transmission malfunction. The truck hesitated and failed to respond to the accelerator, nearly causing a rear-end collision. The transmission required a major overhaul at approximately 53,000 miles, yet the same symptoms returned shortly after the repair. Around 56,000 miles, the engine also developed a cam phaser/timing chain failure requiring extensive repairs. These major drivetrain failures at such low mileage raise serious safety concerns and indicate a potential manufacturing defect. I believe…”

Wheels 1
“Tire/wheel was losing air, upon investigation I discovered a cracked rim, which is my second in 8 months. Upon looking online, I see that ford is attributing this issue to aggressive stiff-wall offroad tires. I have the fx4 offload package with the factory wheels and BF GOODRICH KO2 all-terrain tires, which are the most common all-terrain tire in the US. I am using the same size tires as came from the factory. The change in tire is the only modification I have done from factory. I have followed the factory rotation guide. I have not done any offroading other than maintained gravel roads with t…”

How we read this (methodology)
How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2019 Ford F-150 draws about 1.6 complaints per year on the road, ranking 1 of 5 among the Ford F-150 model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).
