“The brake fluid continues to leak the CVT affected therefore the car only drives backwards. It has under 70,000 miles. It completely stopped while driving in the middle of traffic. I had to have it towed. There was no notice of this issue prior to this incident.”

“Rear lift-gate failed to latch. Paid for assessment and repair in August 2024. I was told it could occur again that there is hatch issue with this vehicle. Eight months later, the rear lift-gate failed to latch again. I took it back to the dealership. While driving, it is unsafe as the warning lights are flashing on the dash and an alarm is screeching for the entirety of the trip. You cannot safely drive a vehicle when the door will not latch. After inspection of the vehicle, they advised to repair the lock assembly($770) though $180 was paid at first assessment . I was told this may not be…”

“I bought the car used from a used dealership on February 28. On May 12th, I brought it to the shop for a few things but mainly due to the battery being corroded along with a battery light that comes and goes, but also for there being a slight skip in the transmission. The car would buckle when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. The shop called me back on May 23rd and said the car was ready and they found nothing wrong with the transmission. They claimed they found no codes or could not recreate the issue. I brought the car back a week or two later due to the battery light still flashing randomly.…”

“Have noticed when turning a corner vehicle has some slight jerking motions before it picks up speed. Vehicle also has a whining/humming sound that it’s making somewhere in the transmission (CVT). I haven’t ever received a recall or CVT extended warranty about this vehicle before but I received this warranty in the mail last week 11-12-25..This warranty would have covered my problems with the vehicle but I was told it expired last year.. How we read this (methodology)
How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2017 Nissan Murano draws about 10.7 complaints per year on the road, ranking 4 of 13 among the Nissan Murano model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).
Before you buy this Nissan Murano
Don't buy on the strength of a problems page alone. Check the exact VIN of the car you're looking at. The open recalls are free, and the full $19 safety report pulls every complaint, safety rating and a downloadable PDF for that one vehicle.
