“I have needed to replace my spark plugs multiple times because of an issue where, apparently when in eco mode, the pistons in the third cylinder flood with oil that causes the spark plugs to misfire. I was informed this is an issue common to Honda Odysseys on or about May 19th, when I was experiencing a misfiring engine and brought it to AAA Reynoldsburg on E Broad Street in Reynoldsburg, OH. Honda is aware of the issue, and when I brought my car to Honda in July, after the new spark plugs started misfiring, one of the people at Honda told me the issue is because of government regulations that…”

“I BOUGHT A NEW 2016 HONDA ODYSSEY WITH CONTINENTAL CONTIPROCONTACTS P235/65/R17 THAT CAME ON THE VEHICLE WHEN PURCHASED. I HAVE 14,537 MILE ON THEM WHEN PASSENGER REAR TIRE COMPLETELY BLEW OUT BOTH INNER AND OUTER SIDE WALLS GOING APPROX. 35MPH ON CITY STREET WITH 64 DEGREE OUTSIDE AIR TEMP. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A TIRE DO SUCH A THING. I WOULD NEVER USE THESE TIRES AGAIN. I FEEL THAT THESE TIRES JEOPARDIZE MY FAMILIES SAFETY. THE ISSUE IS NOT HONDA IT WITH CONTINENTAL AS THEY DID NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT STATING THAT I DIDN'T HAVE ROAD HAZARD INSURANCE WHICH IS A SCAM IN ITS SELF. TELL ME W…”

“The car seat’s affiliated app and buckle’s vehicular heatstroke prevention technology didn’t work right, and a potential privacy safety concern. A colleague and I (both CPST-I’s) were demoing her seat. 1- Privacy concern: I was able to download the app and connect to her seat from outside her vehicle, gaining access to her child’s name, child’s birthdate, and a map that showed me the approximate location of where she drove. The seat owner did not have to approve my access to her seat. A stranger could access a child’s personal information with this lack of security. I was given “limited acce…”

“The contact owns a 2016 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated while attempting to start the vehicle on several occasions, the vehicle started after the third attempt. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that there was a long crank caused by the fuel pressure bleeding back into the fuel tank. The dealer determined that the fuel pump module assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 145,000.”

“My wife was driving the vehicle after dropping off my kid at a swim meet in Dearborn heights MI, the Side curtain and all the passenger side airbags deployed after what she thinks is hitting a pothole. She heard big sound, she initially thought that the window glasses were broken but later realized that all the passenger side airbags deployed. She immediately slowed and took a right on the neighboring street and parked the car and exited. She mentioned a burning smell but I think it’s because of the airbag deployment. I looked for any recalls on this vehicle, there were none. But I noticed a…”

How we read this (methodology)
How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2016 Honda Odyssey draws about 24.0 complaints per year on the road, ranking 6 of 15 among the Honda Odyssey model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).
Before you buy this Honda Odyssey
Don't buy on the strength of a problems page alone. Check the exact VIN of the car you're looking at. The open recalls are free, and the full $19 safety report pulls every complaint, safety rating and a downloadable PDF for that one vehicle.
