Electrical System 71 1 crash 2 fire

“25 mph mild frontal collision caused a fire to start in the door panel as identified by the driver and the fire dept. The fire caused a majority of the cabin to burn and the vehicle to become a total loss in under a minute. Front airbags deployed but not side airbags. Electrical system in left door possibly malfunctioned causing a fire, evident by the fire reigniting every time the fire fighter ceased using the fire extinguisher. Driver was right next to the damaged electrical and was almost hurt by the fire, almost resulting in severe burns or death to the driver had they not escaped the cab…”

“The rear view camera has a recall. I took the vehicle into a Ford dealership on 6/23/26 for this recall. This is a risk to myself and others because backup cameras are a federally required safety feature. This is my 2nd attempt for Ford to fix this recall at two separate dealerships. Ford does not care about their recalls and the safety of Ford customers! I almost hit another car that was coming out due to the blind spots on that vehicle. My young daughter also drives the car and this is not the 1970’s as young drivers depend on that feature. Ford said that they could not find the prob…”

“Smoke came up from under both seats within a few weeks of each other, found burned harness and plug at both heated/ cooled seat control modules mounted under seats. Researched and found a fix that will cost hundreds of $$ per seat but no recalls. “I WAS DRIVING MY 2016 MUSTANG GT BASE MODEL DOWN A STRAIGHT ROAD WITH THE TRACTION CONTROL "ON" AND THE CAR RANDOMLY LOCKED ALL OF THE WHEELS AND TURNED SIDEWAYS INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND ONLY STOPPING WHEN I HIT A CURB. WHILE SLIDING THERE WAS NO THROTTLE OR BRAKE CONTROL BECAUSE THE TRACTION SYSTEM LOCKED ALL FOUR WHEELS. I WENT TO THE FORD DEALER PREVIOUS TO THIS INSTANCE TO COMPLAIN THAT THE FRONT SUSPENSION WAS NOISY AND THE VEHICLE WAS HARD TO CONTROL ON CERTAIN ROAD SURFACES AND IT FELT VERY UNSAFE. “Right rear turn signals and break lights occasionally fail to work. Turning the car off and on 3-4 times temporarily resolved the issue but eventually this temporary fix failed and I was told the entire rear tail light assembly would need to be replaced. An alternative to this total replacement might be found in Ford Special Service Message 47429 where Ford will reprogram the body control module which supposedly corrects the issue.”

Lane Departure 3

“Under NHTSA recall 22V082. Ford refused to change the rear view camera despite it was under recall: The recall states to replace wiring harness and or camera replacement if necessary free of charge. My rear view camera is still distorted after they change the wiring harness and they told me to pay for the camera since its not covered under the recall. the letter that I got has the same recall number above but it didn't mention replacing the camera even though it has the same issue on the recall distort image when backing up. NHTSA and consumer reports/ FORD websites they all mention to replac…”

“Backup camera abruptly stopped working. It shows a hazy image with lines. There are recalls for 2016 Mustangs for that same issue, but none for my VIN.”
NHTSA complaint #11526322, 2023

“Hi there, I believe there is a recall currently on mustangs for the rear view camera not working. I checked my VIN number as my car has the same issue, but it doesn't show at a recall, I'd like understand why this is as the issue is on the same model, and year. I live in the UK, and this same issue happened with my car that was made in US, so I'd like to know if my car was in the US would it have been recalled regarding this rear camera recall. As the cars in the UK aren't and I just want to understand my options with Ford. I know this is a strange request, but would appreciate your steer…”

Tires 2

“My tire is a 255 / 40 ZR 19 model, speed rated 100W. While rotating my tires I noticed catastrophic tread separation on the inner sidewall of the tire. The separation is scattered, not all in one section, and in total covers about 1/4 of the total diameter. The underlying belt package has separated and steel wire is plainly visible at distance. The tire was still holding normal pressure at the time of discovery and there was no indication of the separation from any pressure devices or anything other than visual identification of the issue, which was only possible due to a routine tire rotation…”

Equipment 1

“The ac evaporator core keeps going out and it’s now out of warranty. This has happened on thousands of mustangs. There needs to be a recall to force Ford to fix this costly problem that in 100+ heat is a major safety concern.”

Fuel System 1

“The contact owns a 2016 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle, there was an abnormally strong gasoline odor inside the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced because the cap on the fuel tank was fractured. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated there was no recall for that failure. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 31,115. The consumer stated the vent nipple on the top of the gas tank failed.”

How we read this (methodology)

How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2016 Ford Mustang draws about 33.5 complaints per year on the road, ranking 2 of 13 among the Ford Mustang model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).
