“On two separate occasions, once in 2025 and again in July 2026, while pulling a travel trailer an emissions control fault in the EGR system caused the Cummins turbo diesel engine in the truck to lose power. At this reduced power, highway speeds could not be maintained, and even small hills were difficult to climb. This is a significant safety problem, and the dealerships could not provide a timely repair due to lack of parts availability. The manufacturer of software in the engine control system does not allow the use of aftermarket parts. This is monopolistic and anti-competitive. An emission…”

“ABS speed sensor on. Replaced and it remains on. It causes my cruise control, traction control and most importantly 4WD to stop working. This happened right in the middle of a week where we had lots of snow and ice and freezing temperatures. I got lucky and discovered that the ABS light causes the four-wheel-drive to not work before I manage to take a bad road that I had been planning to take. Meanwhile because of work I haven't had time to fix it till recently so all this time I have not had four-wheel-drive very bad weather. A very stupid fail safe feature, disabling 4WD over a speed sensor.”

“THE HEADRESTS ARE TOO FAR FORWARD CAUSING NECK AND LOWER BACK PAIN AND THE INABILITY TO HOLD MY HEAD UP STRAIGHT. IT'S LIKE HAVING A KNEE ON THE BACK OF YOUR NECK HOLDING IT DOWN. NO ADJUSTMENT ABILITY ON ANGLE OF HEADREST. I CAN'T SIT BACK AND MY CHIN IS PRACTICALLY ON MY NECK. I CAN ONLY DRIVE WITH MY BACK OFF THE BACK OF THE SEAT. THIS IS UNSAFE. I AM 5'6" AND NEED SEAT UP AND FORWARD TO SEE OVER THE HOOD. SEAT MUST BE MADE FOR A 250 LB. 6'6" GUY. NO HELP AT DEALER. I'VE HAD VEHICLE 5 MOS. AND I CAN'T STAND TO DRIVE ANY DISTANCE LIKE THAT.”

“VEHICLE TPMS ON RAM 2500'S IS SET TO 80PSI FOR "PROPER INFLATION" ON A UNLOADED TRUCK IS WAY TO MUCH. WHEN DRIVING DURNING SUMMER MONTHS TIRE PRESSURE IS EXCEEDING MAX TIRE PRESSURE OF 80PSI. NO WAY TO DEFLATE TIRE TO MORE SAFE PRESSURES WITHOUT TPMS "LIGHT" AND "WARNING INDICATOR" TELLING YOU TO INFLATE TIRES TO 80PSI. UPDATE TPMS TO BE ABLE TO LOWER TIRE PRESSURES TO A MORE REASONABLE PRESSURE BEFORE SOMEONE BLOWS OUT A TIRE AND HAS OR CAUSES AN ACCIDENT.”

How we read this (methodology)

How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2015 Ram 2500 draws about 17.7 complaints per year on the road, ranking 8 of 10 among the Ram 2500 model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).

Before you buy this Ram 2500

Don't buy on the strength of a problems page alone. Check the exact VIN of the car you're looking at. The open recalls are free, and the full $19 safety report pulls every complaint, safety rating and a downloadable PDF for that one vehicle.
