“I was curious about recalls because I totaled my 15 Acadia SLT2 and when I hit the impact didn’t deploy airbags and I had no idea until after my accident that they were recalled!!! This incident totaled my Acadia caused my face to be slammed into my steering wheel, cutting me in 2 places and shattering my eye glasses. I now have a scar that looks like a 2nd chin from my impact to hitting the steering column! What should I do? I wasn’t or hadn’t received anything from GMC about this recall until recently and damage has already been done and I’m at a loss of tremendous amounts because my air bag…”

“No airbags deployed in the event of an accident. As a result of hydroplaning, my vehicle's drivers' side slammed into the concrete median on the highway before spinning out across the highway. I would have expected side/curtain airbags to deploy which would have prevented my children from hitting their heads on the windows during impact.”

“Complete loss of steering at low speeds. This has been an issue with GM for years, and is still not corrected on my 2015 GMC Acadia. At a stop light or when turning a corner, I could barely turn the steering wheel. GM needs to pay to have this fixed on all vehicles still affected. There is no way I could maneuver this vehicle to avoid a person or vehicle.”

“Power liftgate suddenly fell about 3 ft, hitting the back of my head. The liftgate then forcibly closed, pinning my hand. There was a recall for 2008-2012 vehicles to due faulty Stabilus struts that cause failure. This is a serious defect that has already caused numerous head injuries, fractured hands, neck pain, etc. This recall needs extended and consumers need to know of the possibility. I am getting the "service side detection system" message whenever I start my car, and the blindspot lights, cross-traffic detection etc. do not function at all. A"nationwide" problem I was told. I was also told that it would cost $800+ to replace if/when the part was available. I am really frustrated with this and was wondering a) whether this malfunction is a part of a service recall (given it is apparently a "nationwide" problem); b) whether the $800 replacement cost is accurate given that the part appears to be available for under $200 online;…”

THE FIRST PROBLEM WAS THAT I ENDED UP WITH A MAJOR FLAT TIRE & IT WAS JUST A BIG HOLE IN THE LARGE TREAD. SINCE THEN THE TIRES NEVER HOLD INFLATION...ALL OF THEM. I HYDROPLANE WHEN TURNING ON ROADS THAT ARE ONLY SLIGHTLY WET AND THE ENTIRE CAR SLIDES SIDEWAYS. I NOW NEED TO REPLACE THESE TIRES AT JUST 30,000 MILES WHEN THE SUPPOSED MILEAGE WARRANTY IS 60K. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT TIRE BUT THE PRODUCTION RECALL ENDED AT JUST TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO WHEN MINE WERE PROD…”

How we read this (methodology)
How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2015 GMC Acadia draws about 21.7 complaints per year on the road, ranking 6 of 15 among the GMC Acadia model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).
Before you buy this GMC Acadia
Don't buy on the strength of a problems page alone. Check the exact VIN of the car you're looking at. The open recalls are free, and the full $19 safety report pulls every complaint, safety rating and a downloadable PDF for that one vehicle.
