IT MAKES A GRINDING CRUNCHING DRAGGING NOISE WHEN TURN THE WHEEL. SOMETIMES SO BAD ON THE DRAG LIKE ITS RUBBING AGAINST SOMETHING IT ALMOST STOPS THE VEHICLE. AS FAR AS SAFETY RISKS YES THE DRAGGING CRUNCHING SOUND STOPS THE VEHICLE AND IF TURNING IT SORT OF STALLS YOU, NO TRACTION OR STABILITY.THE WARNING LIGHTS REAPPEARED ABOUT A MONTH AGO. “THE SIDE DETECTION MODULES IN MY 2015 IMPALA HAVE GONE BAD FOR THE SECOND TIME IN LESS THAN 2 YEARS. THEY WERE REPLACED IN FEBRUARY OF 2019. THIS WAS MOSTLY COVERED THROUGH A SPECIAL "RECALL" TO REPAIR AND PREVENT A REOCCURRENCE OF THE FAILURE. NOW, IN DECEMBER ON 2020, I AM EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME CONDITION. THEY DID NOT REPAIR THE MODULES TO PREVENT THE SAME CONDITION FROM ARISING AGAIN. THEY GET WET BECAUSE OF A BAD DESIGN AND FAULT OUT, LEADING TO CAR SHUTTING DOWN OR EVEN FIRE FROM HARNESS TO MODULES CONNECTION. How we read this (methodology)
How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2015 Chevrolet Impala draws about 24.8 complaints per year on the road, ranking 4 of 11 among the Chevrolet Impala model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).
Before you buy this Chevrolet Impala
Don't buy on the strength of a problems page alone. Check the exact VIN of the car you're looking at. The open recalls are free, and the full $19 safety report pulls every complaint, safety rating and a downloadable PDF for that one vehicle.
