Steering 86 1 crash

“WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, WHEN THE ROAD CURVED, I ATTEMPTED TO TUN THE STEERING WHEEL, I GOT NO RESPONSE FROM THE WHEELS. I WENT OFF THE ROAD AND IN TO THE DITCH. ONCE IN THE DITCH, I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL TO SEE IF THE WHEELS WOULD TURN, THE WHEELS WOULD NOT TURN. LOOKING UNDER THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK THE STEERING DRAG INK HAD BROKE AT THE ADJUSTING SLEEVE. LOOKING AT THE DRAG LINK IT HAS BROKEN IN HALF FOR NO REASON, AND ONE OF THE JAM NUTS IS LOOSE. RAM IS NOT OFFERING ANY ASSISTANCE TO ME TO COVER THE REPAIRS OR DAMAGES TO THE TRUCK.”

“On 5/28/2019 Recall V06 was completed on my 2014 Dodge Ram 2500. As part of that repair the adjustment nuts on the steering drag link were welded to prevent loosening and potential separation. On 3/3/2026 I had new front suspension components installed by Les Schwab Tire Center. During that service the technician advised a wheel alignment could not be performed because the welded drag link nuts prevented the steering linkage from being adjusted. Alignment is normally required after front suspension work and necessary for proper steering geometry. Les Schwab advised that grinding the welds of…”

“The electoral component of the climate control started on fire while vehicle was parked and turned off. The truck was deemed a total loss by insurance. There is a fire and police report stating the fire started in the wiring of the climate control. The fire department had to tear out that whole dash part to stop the fire. There was no warning that this was going to happen. We are now stuck with $8000 left to pay on this vehicle that was deemed total loss by American Family Insurance. How we read this (methodology)

How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2014 Ram 2500 draws about 26.2 complaints per year on the road, ranking 2 of 10 among the Ram 2500 model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).

Before you buy this Ram 2500

Don't buy on the strength of a problems page alone. Check the exact VIN of the car you're looking at. The open recalls are free, and the full $19 safety report pulls every complaint, safety rating and a downloadable PDF for that one vehicle.
