“THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY IN A PUBLIC PARKING LOT. AS THE REAR POWER LIFT GATE WAS COMING DOWN TO CLOSE, I QUICKLY REACHED IN TO PUSH A TARP OUT OF THE WAY...THE LIFT GATE CAME DOWN ON TOP OF MY HEAD AND DID NOT AUTO REVERSE. IT CONTINUED DOWNWARD AFTER STRIKING MY HEAD SENDING ME TO THE GROUND. THIS BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA TO MY HEAD RESULTED IN PERMANENT VISION LOSS TO THE MACULA OF MY LEFT EYE CALLED A SCOTOMA (IS/OS DEFECT.)”

“The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that multiple issues were experienced with the vehicle while driving, including the following: the transmission has odd noises, is not changing gears properly, and emits a burning smell; the vehicle randomly overheats; the brake fluid bubbles when the vehicle is turned on; the AC compressor has failed three times; and the serpentine belt and power steering fluid randomly fail. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where a pressure test was performed indicating issues with the Continuously Variable Transmission, engine, and brakes. Only t…”

“On multiple occasions now the transmission has failed to switch gears causing the RPM's to stay elevated while no additional power has been created. This happens mostly on the highway at 55 to 60 mph but has also happened on side/back roads especially when changing elevation (up or down hill). The repair shop said it is throwing transmission repair codes and that this type of transmission is not worth fixing. They would simply need to order a new one from Nissan at between $7,500.00 to $8,500.00 dollars. Great money making scheme for Nissan. There are multiple complaints of this problem f…”

“I have done a lot of research on these Nissan Muranos and other Nissan models. There are recalls for this exact same issue on models 2015-2019 and I have a 2014. I have viewed many complaints and reviews that state owners also have problem with the CVT transmission. Mine is giving error messages and been acting up while on the interstate. It will jolt into 4 rpm and higher and stay there. This always happens on the interstate and has happened a few times on slower speed limit roads. Seems like the issue is mainly when the car is over 60mph on the interstate. It seems very dangerous and I know…”

“I am reporting a dealer's refusal to perform a safety recall repair (Campaign R1710) on my 2014 Nissan Murano. The local dealership in Montgomery, AL has repeatedly failed to schedule this repair, which involves a high-pressure power steering hose fire risk. Due to a chronic medical neck condition, I have requested email communication, but the dealer has not complied. I am requesting NHTSA's intervention to ensure this federal safety mandate is fulfilled.”

Visibility/Wiper 20

“Sun visors on driver and passenger sides will not stay in the up position causing visibility hazard.”
NHTSA complaint #11451310, 2022

“My driver side sun visor has failed. It will not stay up in the home position nor will it stay against the windshield. It has simply flopped down and is blocking my view through the windshield. The only way I can operate my Murano is to move the visor to the left against the window of the driver's door. From the research I have done I have gleaned that this is an intrinsic design flaw common on all Murano and Rouge vehicles. And replacing it with an OEM sun visor at the dealership will not remedy the problem since the one they install will also fail eventually. Nissan has turned a deaf e…”

After getting the Data read via mechanic the issue is pointing towards bad communication from the airbag control module and the OCS being bad. This should be a recall. Structure 10

“The paint on my hood started peeling last spring for no apparent reason, so I brought my car to a local body shop to have it repainted, and the owner there said that he sees this all the time with Nissans that are that color and that were made around that year, but that there were no recalls for it. I let it be and just paid for the hood to be done, thinking that would be the end of it; but, shortly after that, the trunk started peeling all over, and keeps getting worse and worse; and, more recently, the sides of the car are peeling too and just getting worse and worse. I tried contacting Niss…”

“The transmission has given out. There are recalls for the same year (2014) on different Nissan vehicles. There are issues that I have never had. One minute it will go then it'll shudder and not move at all even with the pedal pushed down. It goes into limp mode. There are threads and pages created just for this issue and nothing has been done about it. The car gave out on me while in traffic, pulling out into traffic, and nearly avoided causing a crash that could have ended in death or sever injury. Why is this not being addressed??? How we read this (methodology)

How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2014 Nissan Murano draws about 11.1 complaints per year on the road, ranking 3 of 13 among the Nissan Murano model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).
