“While driving, the rear arm connected to the rear driver-side wheel broke off. According to my Nissan dealership diagnosis, this was due to excessive rust/rot of the whole subframe. The 2013 Nissan Murano rear arm cannot re attach the wheel to the sub frame due to so much rust/rot on the sub frame. The whole subframe would need replacement. When doing an estimate on fixing, Nissan called and stopped the estimate when replacement of the subframe, fixing of the arm, and additional rust/replacement exceeded the value of the car. My son and I were driving on the road when the arm broke off th…”

NHTSA complaint #11661098, 2025

“The air bag light started blinking. We took the car to our local Nisan dealership. We had to pay $220.77 just to have them look at it. They said there was an occupant sensor unit malfunction and it needed the bottom seat pad replaced. We were then told “that it is discontinued “! We are left with an air bag that doesn’t work, and a blinking air bag warning sign that constantly reminds us of the danger we are in. I am frightened to death to drive the car and angry that it cost $220.77 for nothing. When I asked what I could do - they said “You can trade it in and buy a new Nisan”! We will never…”

Exterior Lighting 3

“I AGREE WITH THE COMPLAINT ABOUT THE BACKUP CAMERA VISIBILITY PROBLEM WITH EXCESSIVE GLARE AND DISTORTION. MY 2006 MURANO WAS SOMEWHAT BLURRY SO I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO MY 2013 MURANO HAVING A MUCH IMPROVED CAMERA SIMILAR TO MY FRIEND'S 2013 HONDA ACCORD, BUT TO MY DISMAY MY CAMERA VISIBILITY IS EVEN WORSE THAN BEFORE, ESPECIALLY IN THE RAIN WHEN IT IS NEEDED THE MOST FOR SAFETY.”
NHTSA complaint #10722127, 2015

“I TOO WOULD LIKE TO STATE HOW BAD THE BACKUP CAMERA IS. THE VISIBILITY ON IT IS VERY POOR ON DARK RAINY DAYS AND IN BRIGHT SUNLIGHT. THEREFORE, NOT GOOD VIEW MUCH OF THE TIME!!! I HAD THE OCCASION TO BE IN A HYUNDAI RENTAL CAR AND THEIR CAMERA IS AWESOME!!! IT WAS A PANORAMIC VIEW THAT WAS CLEAR ALL THE TIME. IT ALMOST LOOKED LIKE IT WAS AN HD VIEW. NISSAN YOU NEED TO STUDY HYUNDAI'S CAMERA AND MAKE YOURS OVER!!! THIS IS MY SECOND MURANO, 2010 & 2013, AND BOTH CAMERAS WERE BAD. OTHER THAN THIS, I LOVE MY VEHICLE AND THE ONE BEFORE!!!”
NHTSA complaint #10717623, 2015

“THE CAR WAS PUT IN REVERSE AND THERE WERE NO OVERHEAD STREET LAMPS. NOTHING COULD BE SEEN BUT A GLARE FROM THE GUIDE LINES ON THE SCREEN. YOU CAN'T TELL IF YOU ARE BACKING UP ON GRASS OR PAVEMENT. YOU CAN NOT TELL IF THERE IS A MAIL BOX, SPRINKLER, DOG OR CHILD BEHIND YOUR CAR AT NIGHT. THE CAMERA WORKS BUT IS BLURRY DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS. *TR”

How we read this (methodology)

How to read this: raw complaint totals are not a clean reliability score — a model year with more cars sold, or simply more years on the road, accumulates more complaints regardless of how good it is. So this page leans on two signals that are not distorted by sales volume: the share of complaints falling on each vehicle system (the breakdown above) and NHTSA's own crash / fire / injury / death flags. When we compare model years of the same model, we normalise by years on the road (complaints ÷ vehicle age) rather than comparing raw totals. Age-normalised, the 2013 Nissan Murano draws about 5.1 complaints per year on the road, ranking 10 of 13 among the Nissan Murano model years we have ingested (1 = most complaints per year on road).
